Who does TSF want to be the next AB coach?
-
@Nepia Is Rennie really lining up for the Wallaby job, or is that just a journo filling space?
If Dave wants a head coaching job, you'd think he'd at least give the ABs gig a crack - though, a bit like KK, he doesn't seem to be one of NZ Rugby's favourite sons.

@Chris-B Just the media speculating. It started with an article in the Sydney Morning Herald on 28 February, naming only Eddie Jones and Warren Gatland. Then Stuff came with an article that added Rennie to the list, although they also added this:
Rennie is now in charge of the Glasgow Warriors in Scotland, deep in Johnson territory, and has been since leaving the Chiefs in 2017. However, the 55-year-old is contracted to Glasgow until the middle of 2020 after agreeing a one-year extension in January, which ruled him out of the All Blacks job with Steve Hansen departing after the World Cup in Japan later this year, and it could potentially be a hurdle to becoming Wallabies coach. "I'm going to be here for at least another year and a half – possibly longer," Rennie told BBC Sport after extending his deal with Glasgow. "It's been really good. We're happy, and my wife is happy, that's the key.
After that, the rumour mill started in full force, but I've not seen any info adding facts supporting those rumours.

@Stargazer why on earth would he want that job? It's all unrealistic expectations and poor cattle. He's got a sweet spot at the moment by the sounds of it. Do well there, maybe enter into the mix for one of the many 6N gigs likely to be available in future, then come home looking for a chance to join the cartel if it's there

@nzzp A lot more time/games to find the winning formula.
Hansen was 0-6, but he didn't have a Lions job to pad out his record (Warren has 3 wins and a draw from the Lions).
Can't tell you about Ted - except he lost 2-1 to Oz with the Lions and I'm pretty sure he never coached against the ABs.
Also got a win over the Saffas with Wales which was unheard of at that time.
Also made provincial and super rugby his bitch until some dodgy reffing in 1998.
Edit: Now that Dave Rennie appears to be Wallaby bound I change my vote to Razor (IIRC I picked either of those two equally with the other assistant but I could only select one option).
I could easily live with Razor head coach, Gats and Fozzie assistants. Foz brings continuity for a season or two; Gats gets to hatch schemes without the pressure of the head coaching gig. Could suit him like it suited Wayne-o.
How likely is this, though? For all their faults, Fozzie and Gats have much more experience than Razor, especially at the international level.
How happy would they be to be working as Razor's juniors, but likely having to coach him through managing an international rugby team at the same time...?

How do he and Gatland get along?
Gatland worked under Fozzie in 2006/7 at the Chiefs before the Wales gig.
They live down the road from one another from what is out there get along pretty well. Besides they were on the shield team together...

Fair point, and it really depends what Gats wants I suppose. 13 years in a fishbowl as No 1; why wouldn't you just step back from the limelight and coach in the background if that's what you enjoy? It worked for Wayne Smith

It’s called desperation. (Or ABC-anything but clown )

Hey...so was Mitch, wasn't he?! What a great redemption story that would be - a Waikato trifecta of coaches!

Gatland didn't really "work under" Foster. He helped out because he was in town anyway.
Once a decent offer came he skedaddled.
Gatland's resume now is five times better than Foster's, mixed as it is. At least his teams don't melt down under pressure like Foster's. Eight years at the Chiefs, with one good season (which ended in a bloodbath) is not the career of an AB coach IMO.

But the guy Wayne was working with wasn’t some young up and comer....

He's always been a crybaby tosser, but Gatland's behaviour during the Lions tour sealed the deal on whether I'd want him near the ABs. His ridiculous tanty about the Dan Carter incident was bad enough. There are plenty of good NZ coaches, don't need that twat involved.

I'm with you in regards to his conduct. He has got a petty side to his personality that I'm not that comfortable with

Will Razor be selected with only domestic experience though? I'd say they'd probably plump for a coach with international coaching under his belt, with Razor as an assistant, and let him earn his spurs. In a similar way to Henry and Shag.
Maybe Gats might not even want the gig? -

Maybe Gats might not even want the gig?So many variables to consider. If Shag wins the cup and Fozzie gets the top job, does he keep the other assistants or does he start again? The recent trend is to maintain stability throughout. If he chooses to bring in new people, could they be Razor and Gats? I'm not sure if it's Razor's time right now. He's still very young (not to say that should stop him getting the top job), he won't be harmed by gaining more experience at home or even abroad. Just not in the SANZAR region preferably

I wonder if Edwards comes as a package deal with Gatland. He seems to have been Gatlands right hand man for awhile.
Edwards going back to League.
Head Coach of Wigan.
Cancel that. Not going to Wigan now.
Unemployed after the WC.

According to a sauce who knew Gatland at Wasps, Gatland is highly likely to be the Chiefs coach next year.
That's the Super gig he always wanted. Good chance to get back in the NZ frame.
