France
I think Nanai has been far better than him at SR level
If you go back to 2016 plenty of non Blues fans were suggesting him as an outside chance of making the AB's. I think that was the year be played for the Baabaas at Twickers and went well (Greenwood was a coach and thought he was next AB winger)
He's goten himself offside with the franchise coach since then.
I would not be surprised if he had success immediately at another franchise
he seems to have to have the tools. I wonder what his mental application and work ethic is like? His basic skill set ticks a lot of boxes, but he is a long way from the required standard at the moment. As you say, a new franchise (or a new coach) looks essential if he is to do anything with his career in NZ
We'll gladly take Nanai off your hands at the Chiefs...and any more discards you want to throw our way

RE: Auckland vs Wellington - Semi Final
Whowever was talking about a lack of big ball-running forwards for ABs in the EOYT thread - think we got just the ticket in Auckland .....

RE: All Blacks v France Test #2
Sorry but that just sucks I can't be happy seeing an opposition team score against us like that

RE: All Blacks v France Test #2
@bones Right I think the Squire/Fifita experiment is over, Harris, Whitelock L are not AB quality.
Others have been put on notice - Crotty, TJ,P Ardie and even Scott Barrett all need to wkae themselves up. Fifita. Crotty and Squire seem to spend most of their time down injured anyway. And BFA just looks... well, OLD.
We have Read, BBBR, SBW still to return and maybe an injection of new blood from the saviour Frizell (I jest) and Aumua (Taylor was in his infancy at RWC 2015) will help,
Seriously though, we need more GRAFTERS, workhorses and unsung heroes prepared to roll their sleeves up and do the dirty work, We seem to have too many faffing around *Ardies I'm looking at you) ready to grab glory rather than getting in amongst it. -
RE: Crusaders v Sharks - QF
Sammy W is ramping up his captiancy for ABs, looks a good fit

given Cane has had alsmot as many head knocks as Crotty, maybe we need to look at leaving him out for a period too?
So that slots Savea firmly in the drivers seat (looked a bit more physical than normal last night too, although against a beaten Wallaby pack) but who is the next 7 off the ranks?
I'm leaning towards Papali'i.Worth a go IMO, he's into everything.

@Machpants Translation = I'll take a good running rugby Kiwi side over a Saffa forward-oriented hit-ups any day

Pity we can't bring in Edwards as a "vs NH sides defence adviser" for the RWC!
Was impressed with Wales defence especially for the England and Ireland matches. Ireland never looked likely in the early stages despite spending a fair chunk of time camped on the Welsh line.

RE: Who does TSF want to be the next AB coach?
@chimoaus Meh I don't think anyone in their right mind would want to coach either England or France...

I wonder if Edwards comes as a package deal with Gatland. He seems to have been Gatlands right hand man for awhile.
Edwards going back to League.
Head Coach of Wigan.
Cancel that. Not going to Wigan now.
Unemployed after the WC.
Or maybe not....

RE: Who does TSF want to be the next AB coach?
Will Razor be selected with only domestic experience though? I'd say they'd probably plump for a coach with international coaching under his belt, with Razor as an assistant, and let him earn his spurs. In a similar way to Henry and Shag.
Maybe Gats might not even want the gig? -
RE: Highlanders v Crusaders
In the UK and working in London we live with the feeling that ther could be these kinds of attacks
at the back of your mind of every day. So much so, it has become the norm which is a sad indictment on life in a big city.
What we cannot do is allow these people to think they have won. So, we carry on. -
RE: Who does TSF want to be the next AB coach?
The odds on Gats becoming AB coach have dramatically increased I think
