@snowy it was some ragged ass shit bro. Probably the worst live AB performance I've seen. Kept waiting for us to kick up a few gears but it just never happened.
I think social media told a massive story. Usually I get inundated with selfies from people at the game, last night I got none!

Haven't read the thread only just watched the game. Really nice of them to dedicate it to Shields with it being at the tin and him getting his first start. Toaster hands all around.
Yep was just thinking that after I watched England and Shields get mullered.
Right now Aus doesn't look that crash-hot either.Reckon come RWC time 40% of this current AB team won't be there, and the main challenge will come from the Boks.
-
@shadowtrooper so they're going to drop 6-7 starters and 3-4 off the bench? Who?

Went to the game and watched the replay last night. Looked waaay tidier onscreen compared to watching live, where it was disjointed and a pretty average watch. Some good periods but those felt few and far between. RC pretty much killed the vibe in the stadium.
Felt like we thought it'd be easy to crack them afterwards but France amped up and our accuracy and patience went to shit.
Don't blame the ref but am liking these ideas of taking the player off and allowing a replacement after 20min. So there is a clear punishment, but we don't totally ruin the contest.
Deliberate foul play should still get the status quo though. It was pretty morgue like after the red card, eh. Was actually bored, highlight was moody try.
-
@taniwharugby I agree with you that red card should be reserved for kicks and punches etc.
But, I think people are forgetting the speed of rugby game - if you're running tracking a ball that you think you're getting to there may only be a split second before you realise that you're not going to make it. I think it can come down to luck, then it's luck again depending on how a guy lands whether you go off for 10 minutes or for the whole match. Then there's the jump forwarders (not saying BB did this but it happens) who cut out the space but are actually the ones causing the danger, yet it's always the lower jumper/on the ground guy who gets sanctioned.
-
You can't ban jumping for the ball, but you could ban leaping while on the run. Two guys jumping side by side only hurt each other if an ankleor knee is twisted on landing or one guy deliberately pulls at the other.
It's not that Barrett is high that causes the problem, but at that speed there's a huge path along which any contact is going to tip him.
Either that or the defender needs to be given priority to catch before an attacker.

Arse throw from Harris
Where's Aumua?
Too early for that boy
-
@bones Right I think the Squire/Fifita experiment is over, Harris, Whitelock L are not AB quality.
Others have been put on notice - Crotty, TJ,P Ardie and even Scott Barrett all need to wkae themselves up. Fifita. Crotty and Squire seem to spend most of their time down injured anyway. And BFA just looks... well, OLD.
We have Read, BBBR, SBW still to return and maybe an injection of new blood from the saviour Frizell (I jest) and Aumua (Taylor was in his infancy at RWC 2015) will help,
Seriously though, we need more GRAFTERS, workhorses and unsung heroes prepared to roll their sleeves up and do the dirty work, We seem to have too many faffing around *Ardies I'm looking at you) ready to grab glory rather than getting in amongst it. -

Aumua has been injured otherwise there is little doubt he would be in the squad.

I reckon there is huge doubt over him at this stage. He may have been selected but i think it would’ve been highly likely he wouldn’t play.

Moriarty's actions this morning should still be a straight red.
Wrong thread I know, but Moriaty's behaviour was utterly bizarre. It was so bad it was almost comical. Def a Red and probbly a few weeks ban.

@MiketheSnow Fall could have avoided the collision by checking his run. The current laws have actually outlawed "only having eyes on the ball". They've mandated that players must be more aware when chasing high balls. And that's what he was doing - chasing, whereas Beauden was fielding the kick. The duty of care is on the chaser.
They did that to stop players clattering into their opposition while staring at the sky and then claiming innocence.
I don't for a second believe Fall intentionally tried to injure Beauden. But as it stands Beauden landed on his head and was concussed.
And you can bet your ass next time Fall is chasing a high ball like that he will check his run and avoid the collision, which is exactly the behaviour WR is trying to encourage with this.
Fair enough.
Best explanation yet.
No argument from me after that.

This morning's press conference.
Especially interesting from 4'36'', particularly what Hansen says about asking players, who have just come back from injury, to "double up". They don't have many options from props, but other options like Sam Cane's, there they have options.
I think Matt Todd may get a run on Saturday ...
Further about two players contesting for the ball (the red card situation), and briefly about next week's selection (from 13'25").

Forgive me for intimating we might take a leaf out of AFL books, but surely those crazies have a rule to reduce the carnage which might otherwise result from their marking antics?
Like thou shalt not tackle below the waist?
-
@taniwharugby Hansen basically echoed all my thoughts - including my scenario of the same team players taking out each other and the fact that the outcome shouldn't determine the sanction of the action.
Since we're so in sync (Tongan Frizell aside) he might take my selectorial advice for next weekend.
