Crusaders vs Waratahs

Start at 6 weeks.
-2 for guilty plea
-2 for good record
-2 for being a Crusader
-2 for being an All BlackSo two extra weeks' pay for him, courtesy of the judiciary, and a hasty apology for dragging him into this mess.

It’s been a while since the Aussie victim mentality had a chance to shine.
That was an ugly fend, he’s lucky it didn’t do any damage. I’d expect four weeks off for that, but the judiciary is a random number generator so it could be anything from 1-6

Striking with the arm has low of two weeks, mid of four, then eight plus for high range offences. If it doesn't hit Beales head then two minus one (they always take off one) if it does then four minus one imo. The high end is for stiff arm tackles I think.
Luckily he wasn't done for striking with the elbow which is 2, 6, 10+

@stargazer mate, you are so one eyed you make Canerbry look like a Blues supporter
So, where exactly do you disagree with my assessment that it should be a 6-week entry point? And what is wrong with my conclusion that it seems that he makes contact with the chest first? Have you seen other camera angles, because I haven't. I'd love to see them.
It's easy to throw dirt at someone and make up arguments about being one-eyed, but I'd like to see where I'm doing that regarding Moody's (alleged) foul play. Or are you just going for the easy upvotes from one-eyed Blues fans?

@toddy said in Crusaders vs Waratahs:
Just watched the video and it's even worse. How the fuck the ref and tmo missed that I've got no idea. Worst bit of reffing this season so far.
The ref is watching the Saders backline which were quite deep, Moody was way up in front when he hit Beale. I could almost excuse the ref for not seeing it out of his field of view, but where the fark were the assistant refs and if they can't see that what are they doing there?

You're missing -2 for a heartfelt apology on social media that brings a tear to the eye. Oh wait, no, that's a Wallaby thing.

I didn't watch the game, I assume by what you've posted, Beale got up just fine?
-
@canefan the blindside AR should be looking at the last breakdown for foul play i.e. where the ball was
The openside AR will be watching offside lines generally, and getting a lead on the potential try scoring - so where the ball will be.
I don't think either bloke is looking for a guy running that far out of the line to cause obstruction.
But the TMO has definitely clocked off there

If Beale hadn't removed the sandpaper off the front of his jersey Moody's hand wouldn't have slipped up into his face in the first place. He's the real victim here

At that moment TMO must have been bending down to pick the hotdog he dropped

Yes. That was really poor, but not particularly by the ref. He has one set of eyes and things get missed in real time, especially now that lawmakers let the 14 other non-ball carriers theoretically produce 14 immaterial offences.
It's the TMO, that must have been replayed a few times? And he missed an obstruction compounded by a forearm.

He’s actually been quite reasonable in his assessment, I think 6 weeks is a fair starting point.
I think you’ve been reading the blues thread and have seen an opportunity to get a few cheap likes by copying the “cool kids”
Pretty pathetic really

@stargazer I agree with your six weeks comment. But I did enjoy your predictable photo stills jumping to the initial defence of a crusaders player. If only you were so defensive of nz players from other teams.

I have defended plenty of players from other teams on the Fern. Maybe you just haven't noticed that because you agreed with what I said on those occasions, or because it wasn't a player from a team you dislike/hate/don't care about?
The only reason I managed to make the stills last night is because of the clip posted on reddit. Someone else posted the link to that clip. I've tried it before with YouTube in other situations, but for some reason I don't succeed in getting good stills from YouTube. I don't think lacking the technology/skills to make stills from YouTube counts as being one-eyed?
Edited to add that I also didn't make the stills of Moody's elbow fend/hit to defend him, but to see what actually happened. The real time clip was way too fast and you couldn't clearly see the point of first contact and whether/where it hit Beale's head. That's what I wanted to see.
-
Fuck you, Joe!
We need to clone Wyatt Crockett.
Loosehead prop who can play lots of minutes without getting broken and without doing ridiculously dumb shit!
However the explanatory calculations run, he'll get two weeks for that.

Wait, are you sure you're talking about Crockett?
Anyway, think of how ready to go Moody will for the Rugby Championship as he'll have barely played.

Cheers for those - the video looked horrible, but the stills seem to show it's arm/elbow to chest. Hopefully there are more angles to clarify at the judiciary

I’m sure they will use the video though, because it shows the striking and it’s impact. It was an incredibly brain dead thing to do.
He left it to chance whether he hit him in the head, moving target and all that.
Good on Beale for getting straight back up too. If he played dead like an Argentinian that could have been a red card.
-
Joe has still got a way to go before he reaches peak AB thuggery, remember Richard Loe on Paul Carozza? Check it out at 1.34
I'll have to see if I can dig up the time he tried to dig out Greg Cooper's eye too

Yes, incredibly reckless & stupid. He's an experienced All Black; no excuses.

Yeah hopefully they stick with the "intent" part of the process, and judge it on that. Its not about the result, but unfortunately too often the consequences of the action are taken into account, rather than the intent of the player.
e.g. "The player was forced to leave the field due to injury so we'll seek a longer sentence" versus "The play got back up straight away so it wasn't that serious - cut 2 weeks off it"
Someone made the comment earlier about Chance Peni on Dagg, but the resulting injury is completely irrelevant IMHO.
If he'd just run interference on Beale (again, several metres ahead of the ball), he'd probably be fine. Raising the forearm is where the stupid happens, and shows his intent was more than just a bit of niggle.
-
That's gotta be the worst reffing since the Stormers vs. Blues last year. Super Rugby refereeing is frequently poor, but not having neutral refs is insane.
Waratahs should be extremely pissed off by that.
-

Irritated, but if we're honest, that's not the reason we lost a game we should have won. We went away from what was working for us in the first half.

When Chris B said that I was immediately thinking of Crockett injuring himself in the last RWC with his flying elbow ruck clean out.

Massive dive by Beale!!!

Messam's against South Africa in 2013 would've had the Jaguares nodding in appreciation.

Wow. I just no longer know what is satire any more.
As an aside, have been watching some old AB SA games while exercising. Messam has been simply immense against him - a fair few saffer fans I know rate him, and I can see why based on his perforamnce against them. He was quality for a long time.
-
-
That seems pretty light to me.
-
-
@unite Yes, that's what it seems to me as well, but we haven't seen all the angles. All we know at the moment is that the entry point was 4 weeks. We don't know exactly yet what he was deemed to be guilty of (and/or not guilty of).
-
Having seen those still shots 2 weeks seems anout right to me. However i would be pissed if i was a tah supporter. That try was a turning point. Take that away and add a yellow or red card and i don't see the Crusaders getting back into the game.
Oh well, im happy to see that happen to any team with Folau in it. -
It has now been found that Moody contravened Law 9.12: Striking with hand or arm. In his finding, Foul Play Review Committee Chairman Nigel Hampton QC ruled the following: “Having conducted a detailed review of all the available evidence, including all camera angles and a statement from the player, and submissions from his legal representative, Aaron Lloyd, the Foul Play Review Committee upheld the citing under Law 9.12.” “With respect to sanction the Foul Play Review Committee deemed the act of foul play merited a mid-range entry point of 4 weeks due to the dangerous contact with the opposing Player’s head. However, taking into account mitigating factors including the Player’s excellent judicial record, good character and guilty plea at the earliest possible opportunity, the Foul Play Review Committee reduced the suspension to 2 weeks.” “The player is therefore suspended for 2 weeks, up to and including Friday 25 May 2018.”

Yeah, nah. Thing is there were another stack of chances to win or stay ahead in that game, and we blew it.
-
The World Rugby Laws thing is offline apparently, and I believe they "simplified" it recently by rewriting a few sections.
I still had the 2015 copy I downloaded for one of our guys being cited. It states that under Law 10.4(a) Striking another Player with a hand, arm or fist the entry level is 2 weeks, Mid-range is 5 weeks, Top End 8 weeks.
However, if they deemed it contact to the head - and understanding that Moody has a clean record* - then it doesn't send a great message about all the concussion-related stuff and protecting players' heads that has been talked about.
Not sure what his character has to do with fuck all. Its not a popularity contest.
But it was always going to be 2-4 weeks so yeah, all good.
