Edited to add that I also didn't make the stills of Moody's elbow fend/hit to defend him, but to see what actually happened. The real time clip was way too fast and you couldn't clearly see the point of first contact and whether/where it hit Beale's head. That's what I wanted to see.

Cheers for those - the video looked horrible, but the stills seem to show it's arm/elbow to chest. Hopefully there are more angles to clarify at the judiciary

I’m sure they will use the video though, because it shows the striking and it’s impact. It was an incredibly brain dead thing to do.

He left it to chance whether he hit him in the head, moving target and all that.

Good on Beale for getting straight back up too. If he played dead like an Argentinian that could have been a red card.

Joe has still got a way to go before he reaches peak AB thuggery, remember Richard Loe on Paul Carozza? Check it out at 1.34

I'll have to see if I can dig up the time he tried to dig out Greg Cooper's eye too

Yes, incredibly reckless & stupid. He's an experienced All Black; no excuses.

Yeah hopefully they stick with the "intent" part of the process, and judge it on that. Its not about the result, but unfortunately too often the consequences of the action are taken into account, rather than the intent of the player.

e.g. "The player was forced to leave the field due to injury so we'll seek a longer sentence" versus "The play got back up straight away so it wasn't that serious - cut 2 weeks off it"

Someone made the comment earlier about Chance Peni on Dagg, but the resulting injury is completely irrelevant IMHO.

If he'd just run interference on Beale (again, several metres ahead of the ball), he'd probably be fine. Raising the forearm is where the stupid happens, and shows his intent was more than just a bit of niggle.

That's gotta be the worst reffing since the Stormers vs. Blues last year. Super Rugby refereeing is frequently poor, but not having neutral refs is insane.

Waratahs should be extremely pissed off by that.

Irritated, but if we're honest, that's not the reason we lost a game we should have won. We went away from what was working for us in the first half.

    Fuck you, Joe!

We need to clone Wyatt Crockett.

Loosehead prop who can play lots of minutes without getting broken and without doing ridiculously dumb shit!

However the explanatory calculations run, he'll get two weeks for that.

Wait, are you sure you're talking about Crockett?

When Chris B said that I was immediately thinking of Crockett injuring himself in the last RWC with his flying elbow ruck clean out.

@rapido To be fair, apart from a few select highlights, my rugby memory doesn't extend much beyond a week these days. 🙂

Messam's against South Africa in 2013 would've had the Jaguares nodding in appreciation.

Wow. I just no longer know what is satire any more.

As an aside, have been watching some old AB SA games while exercising. Messam has been simply immense against him - a fair few saffer fans I know rate him, and I can see why based on his perforamnce against them. He was quality for a long time.

@unite Yes, that's what it seems to me as well, but we haven't seen all the angles. All we know at the moment is that the entry point was 4 weeks. We don't know exactly yet what he was deemed to be guilty of (and/or not guilty of).

Having seen those still shots 2 weeks seems anout right to me. However i would be pissed if i was a tah supporter. That try was a turning point. Take that away and add a yellow or red card and i don't see the Crusaders getting back into the game.
Oh well, im happy to see that happen to any team with Folau in it.

It has now been found that Moody contravened Law 9.12: Striking with hand or arm.

In his finding, Foul Play Review Committee Chairman Nigel Hampton QC ruled the following: “Having conducted a detailed review of all the available evidence, including all camera angles and a statement from the player, and submissions from his legal representative, Aaron Lloyd, the Foul Play Review Committee upheld the citing under Law 9.12.”

“With respect to sanction the Foul Play Review Committee deemed the act of foul play merited a mid-range entry point of 4 weeks due to the dangerous contact with the opposing Player’s head. However, taking into account mitigating factors including the Player’s excellent judicial record, good character and guilty plea at the earliest possible opportunity, the Foul Play Review Committee reduced the suspension to 2 weeks.”

“The player is therefore suspended for 2 weeks, up to and including Friday 25 May 2018.”

Yeah, nah. Thing is there were another stack of chances to win or stay ahead in that game, and we blew it.
