Rugby related question Chubbster: what is the general feeling about the new scrum laws? I note you're looking at particular mass goals for next season and wondering where the general consensus is on size as it relates to height and technique.

Also what the refs are saying pre-game, because quite honestly I see a lot of the problems coming from the way the ref handles the first few engagements.

Les Mills (Taranaki st) has a few wipe down towels/spray bottles in the weights floors (not sure about in the cardio sections). Most people use their own towel from what I've seen. I think that's a good idea though, and perfect timing with summer coming on. A lightweight, absorbent training towel would be a useful gift or membership perk.

Getting them into it, easier when you have less distance to travel up and down but their boredom always beats any staying power they have hahaha.

And this one is not that impressive, his arms are really wide and as a consequence he doesn't go near dead hang. I used to do 35 in a row with a bit less distance from top to bottom. Call these 1/2-3/4 pull ups.

Dead hang are tougher, and hands just more than shoulder width apart.

This is very impressive, although he's only 16 so is probably 20kg lighter than me. Also, on many pull ups he doesn't drop to full hang and pause.

Some of those Stan Lee Superhumans clips are awesome value. The Samurai dude is great - its not like he really has 0.4s to react. He's going to pull the sword while the guy is pitching, but he nailed that fucking baseball and I wouldn't try him.

Its stupid how injuries happen. Last night felt a little bit in the left glute from the squat parts, but then helping the girl get dressed this morning I turned my head and something popped in my neck. WTF??? Left trap is in spasm for some reason...

Dude I fucked my left lat lifting the oldest boy into his bunk ( a bit awkward, has a rail to put him over so he doesn't fall out ). Age catches up with everyone, even those of us doing our best to stay active.

All makes sense...dont have a cable set up in my garage, but I happened to be looking at some of those bands on the weekend, so may need to go back.

It feels normal again today anyway, but will still work on it to avoid any ongoing issues.

Started rowing about 2-3 months ago becuase I had no choice but to stop running and cycle less. At the young age of 44 my knees are telling me to look after them.

Started off at over 42 for the 10k and now have my best down to 39.22 although it hurt like all fuck and then some. Goal is 39 now. Seems a long way off.

I found that interval training is what has helped me get the time down. This was after speaking to youngster at my gym who used to row for the Aussie junior team. He suggested intervals as a way of building your endurance when you start hitting the red zone to enable you to stay in there longer and recover faster when you back off. I am no guru but that makes sense.

I do one each of these per week in addition to other gym and cardio work:

4 on and one off, try to eek it out eight times. Only got to 5 intervals the first time and build up to 8. Goal is 12 of these. Jaysus. Idea is to go hard.

1 on 1 off, 2 on 1 off, 3 on 1 off, 4 on 1 off, 4 of 4 off, 3 on 3 off, 2 on 2 off 1 on 1 off. Try to blitz it all the way. It's horrible. Keep the 500 splits as low as you can. Goal being to keep pushing the average split time down.

I have done all sorts of excercise but find few things keep you as honest as this damn rower.

Let me qualify that I knew nothing about rowing when I started and at the moment this is making sense to me although I think there are probably better ways to train? Any thoughts?

I'm dubious about them. Like you pointed out unless you're eating/training is good they won't be giving you a visible 6 pack any time soon. I don't know how 'functional' it is? I know it flexes the muscles but surely abs are flexing in all sorts of conditions (as you move, rotate, stretch, compress etc). You may increase your sneezing power though!

well while they may not support 10% etc they sure do show some decent progressive. Pretty impressive for 6 weeks mate!
Yeah like I said I doubt the percentages are very accurate, but short of shelling out a 100 Euros a week for a body tank test. I used the most accurate method at my disposal, which I assume is the method that takes the most site readings.
