I think if we play well and get close he'll be okay for now. Lose the Bled to the Aussies and the blowtorch will come on
Blowtorch? He should be sacked.
If he loses this weekend and the Bledisloe, NZRU will look very silly.
I’m confident they won’t lose it though - we should have won last week.
One issue that came up from the ARP was Hall talking about Razor’s motivational ‘Themes’ and how it helped over the course of a season. I get the feeling that some of those techniques may not be translating to the International arena as easily. That’s not to say that core principles aren’t important, but their value for keeping everyone engaged over a long semester (including rough squaddies) may be much less important in the ABs.
One other point from the ARP - they were blowing D’Allende hard - he’s a great defensive cog and they broke down how he was crucial to some of their success.

On the loose forwards, it does concern me that a bunch of people on a forum known for awful analysis, incorrect conclusions and zero insight could see the problems with the squad selections as soon as they were announced, but the coaching group being paid the big bucks couldn't.
The problem is that because Razor was appointed so long ago he and his assistants have had ages to plan and prepare and formulate their squad and the game plan they want to play - obviously lots of Crusaders involved in those plans but not exclusively. And then super rugby happens and the Crusaders are shit and lots of blokes who weren’t in his plans show form and talent. So what we end up with is a complete mishmash that lacks balance in key areas, form, fitness, and also players who complement each other and who can implement the game plan that the coaches want to play. I will give Razor this year to move on from the crusaders and realise he’s the national coach responsible for coaching a team to play and win test matches.
The Crusaders were shit but mostly because the Crusaders that are in the AB squad now were not available for most of the SR competition - Reece I think played most SR and he isn’t getting much AB game time at all

You can get $2.70 at Betfair if you want to cash in on that confidence
If we lose this week, those odds will go up and I might climb on as a hedge!

This is a total load of horse-shit, and I'm not a Crusaders fan.
Which Crusaders have let the side down? Taylor? Scott Barrett? Tamaiti Williams? Blackadder? Or are you laying the blame all at Fletcher Newell's feet? Fuck he must be influential.
The underperforming players are from other super teams. The only controversial crusaders selection who has actually been playing has been Blackadder, and he's been good. Get your parochial chip off your shoulder.Reading comprehension not your strong suit is it? Where did I say that Crusaders players have let the side down?
What I have said is that the selections and game plan appears to be muddled, with square pegs being put in round holes and a lack of balance across the squad but particularly in key areas such as the back row. I surmised why this might be the case - ie lots of time to make plans regarding selections and tactics which have then been disrupted by unexpected form and talent.
Anyway keep jumping at shadows chief.

So what exactly then re the back row? You think he was expecting to select Grace but couldn't and that's messed it all up?

There was certainly a lot of discussion around that before the first squad naming.
Regardless we can all agree that not having added Sotutu has certainly reduced their options given the form of Ardie.
-
@antipodean yep, and not talking to Akira to keep him in NZ has backfired so badly it's not even funny, the cupboard is completely bare at 6 right now.
-
@antipodean I'm not arguing that it was a great selection, I'm on record numerous times criticising it.
I just don't understand the argument that he had plans for the back row and the Crusaders being shit changed them - he still selected Blackadder despite fuck all games - I criticised that decision, but he's done well. He didn't select Hoskins, who was the form player. I criticised that one too.
So what did he change because the Crusaders were shit? Literally the only thing I can think of is not selecting Grace, and that is no game-changer.
It's the selection of Jacobson, Cane, Papalii (particularly), with Savea and Blackadder together that is fucked. One crusader, 2 chiefs, 1 ex-hurricane, 1 blue. And Blackadder has been the best of the lot. And Cane and Savea weren't form selections. If anything I think he had plans already made and stuck to them, despite Super form. -

Just an apology from SA Rugby over the timing issue with flyover etc.
Best wishes
BI mean…very generous…but also - it’s also a bit embarrassing to think that some of us kiwis are genuinely upset about this - its a fucking A380, it’s kinda hard to time and manoeuvre perfectly!
All seems a bit precious to me
" its a fucking A380, it’s kinda hard to time and manoeuvre perfectly! "
Um, no it's actually really easy, and happens at pretty much every arrival into every airport, but your point about preciousness remains!
And if anyone on this forum would know, it's you Snowy.
Not sure the game management had thought of being in direct contact with air traffic control though... And if they were, the bloomin DJ probably drowned out their comms anyway.Good to see you around Billy, about time I headed over your way again!
Would be super happy to host you anytime you're ready Snowy.
I'll have the chilli-biltong on standby.
(and maybe one or two bottles of red wine too...) -

Story of the season is surely Blackadder casting off his niggles moniker by being an 80 minute week in week out tyro.
WPOTY incoming. 😀
Seriously, WTF do people see in Blackadder.
INMHO, he's softer in defence than the complaints about Ardie, haven't seen a good solid driving tackle or big hit from him yet.
He's useless with ball in hand and makes little real yards and then clearly his decision making is farking shite given the ball hungus screwing the pooch on a certain try!
Sure, he has an engine and runs all game and is involved but his involvment lacks much impact on both sides of the ball.
Fark me, I honestly watch his game scratching my head and think, "WTF are the coaches seeing in this guy?"!
In terms of changes, I think we clearly need more height in the engine room, start Darry and move Vai'i to starting 6. More height, more grunt!
-
Maybe we don't have the right depth, the right selection, good enough players, the best possible coaching.
Or maybe it is an onfield leadership problem. -
@BorderJB said in Springboks vs All Blacks 2:
…and outside him ALB as a non playmaking 12
That’s exactly what the ABs back line needs, said no one ever
-
@RoninWC That's just nonsense.
He makes heaps of tackles. Gets off the deck quickly and helps reorganise the defensive line. By your logic, someone like Motu Matu'u is more valuable than Richie McCaw.
He makes a decent number of carries. Far more, and far more effectively than Cane, DP, LJ. So if you're gonna rubbish him, you ought to deal out harsher criticism to most of his alternatives.
He gets to a lot of rucks.
A workaholic loosie with a big motor is nothing to be sniffed at. Might not be much of a highlights reel, but the work still has to be done. -
Blackadder rarely wins collisions against other forwards whether it's in the carry, in the tackle, or at the breakdown.
He's got workrate but he's a very low impact player and outside of props I think he would have the lowest top speed in the squad.

Rubbish he has had 2 good test matches in a row one of the better performers.
This BS on Blackadder is tiresome when there is a few other players who deserve the spotlight for shit performances. -

Pick a team full of big hitters who are slow to get off the ground and make half a dozen tackles per game and see how you go.
Pick a team full of Doug Howlett and see how you go. -
@brodean
I was feeling shit on Sunday Morn, decided to watch a replay cos I could and tried to concentrate on Blackadder only.
Mainly remember his defence. Maybe he attacked but can’t remember much apart from screwing CC, who was not happy and told him so.
Blackadder made a huge amount of tackles and “hit” a lot of rucks. Sometimes he would do 2-3 in a row, getting up and going again. Was crazy how many rucks he was at.
But, most of the tackles were “absorbing”. He would get the guy down but rarely pushed them back, made a good hit or put pressure on apart from being there. That could have been the next guys job?
He tried to release and steal about 1/3 of the time if he was in position, but got cleaned out most times and never succeeding that I saw. But was annoying as, at the ruck.
Is that his job? Just be in the way, create a bit of chaos?
The one dominant tackle I saw was on our line vs Koch I think, No 18. Great timing and hit him hard but didn’t result in anything.
I like Blackadder, but as a former fullback/wing I have zero idea if the above is effective forward play at test level or not.
In comparison, Cane hit less but smashed people. -
@DMack I'd compare to something like Perenara getting to more breakdowns etc on time, but then fucking up the distribution as compared to Ratima who might be a bit slower getting there but aces the distribution. There's plenty who don't like that aspect of Perenara's play but give Blackadder a pass.
