No way. Jonny is way more insightful. Fitzy is turning into the old Zinny pundit
I've heard Fitzy speak a few times and chatted with him once. He's a mix of PR and insight. But when he starts talking about team dynamics and culture, and how it impacts performance, he's outstanding.
He was good in the past. I just find him a bit cliched and out of date. Tonight on ITV he was extolling the virtues of Cane who had v little positive impact.
Opposed training runs aren't the type of game where Sam's benefits shine.

I'm out of the country right now, so only got to see short highlights of the game. Nice to see Roigard and DMac in the bench, who knows what Fozz is thinking, but that has to be the bench moving forward
ALB being in pisspoor form is a bugger, as we need 12 cover, however he has a nice combination with DMac so we may get better out of him too.

Who'd have though six months ago Shannon Frizzell would be key to NZ's RWC progress?
We live in weird times.
I know!!
Me and I’m sure most people thought he was a throwaway selection. Turns out he is the key to our forward pack being able to function.
-
Nitpicking but exits are still shit and they won't be able to get out of their 22 so easily against better opposition. Some option-taking wasn't good either. Jordan looked a bit slower than usual.
Paps was really good, I keep an eye on him and he is just a bigger body than Cane so seems to fit the loose trio better I think. BBBR was in fine form as well (the Bad was put back in his name). Apart from the props, I think that should be the starting 15. Ofa and Nepo off the bench though. -

I don't know why he turned the corner, but nice to hear he's continuing in the right vein. The guy appears to be born again hard, time to prove it vs the Irish

Be interesting to see how Italy respond to that demolition, given the steps forward they have made, you don't want them dropping back again.
-
Really nice to see some impact from the bench:
Roigard with 56 metres, 2 clean breaks and 2 defenders beaten, 2 try assists
Dmac with 75 metres, 3 clean breaks, 4 defenders beaten, 2 offloads, 1 try
Even ALB had 28 metres, 1 offload and a trySome issues for attention beyond the kicking game, we tackled at 87% with some players having a bad night on the other side of the ball:
Ioane 4 missed tackles (12 made) with 2 turnovers
Beauden Barrett 2 missed tackles (1 made) with 1 turnover
Cane 2 missed tackles (2 made) with 1 turnover -

Ireland are still a better rugby team than us.
BUT.
Ireland at their best will never ever beat iItaly like that. Never ever.
We aren’t out of this cup. Not by a long shot.
I think M4L is right in that we are the best downhillers in the world, once we are on top like that, watch out.
The key for me is getting enough territory early to get some points on the board and create scoreboard pressure on Ireland. We can score points quickly so we need a first 20 like we had against SA.

Haven't read the thread. And am 10 standard drinks down by midday, after watching the match on Stuff's free delayed stream, from a shitty motel room in shitty Palmerston North. LIving the life.
But... the one thing I took out of that game was... fuck we're good if the opposition plays exactly like we'd like them to. No slowing down of the game, no bullshit semi-injuries, etc, etc.
We will cruise to another Wiremu on the sleeve if Ireland, SeffAfrica, France, etc - just choose to do the same. Except........... -
I could tell we weren't playing South Africa because the game wasn't stopping every 5 minutes for a 130kg prop to get "medical attention".

Me too (out of the country) - but, job done and our destiny is in our own hands again.
I know what Fozzie is thinking. He's a very consistent selector.
Barring injuries, de Groot for Williams will be the only change to this 23 for the QF.

getting enough territory
This is hugely important the way we seem to want to play, yet sometimes you wonder if players get this?

Operation ¼ final now. Not sure how to prepare for Uruguay in a dead rubber.
Not a dead rubber, if Italy beat France
I think we are into the 1/4 regardless of that result if we get 5 points from Uruguay and keep a big points differential.
If Italy beat France with a bonus point and keep France to a single BP the Table will be
NZ 15 Points (Qualify 1st because we beat Italy)
Italy 15 Points
France 14 PointsIf Italy beat France with a BP and France get 2 BP the table will be
NZ 15 Points
Italy 15 Points
France 15 PointsIn this scenario I assume its points differential and NZ will have the best PD if France lose to Italy so NZ go through Q1, then I think Italy go through as they beat France.
The other options would be If Italy beat France without a bonus point and France get 1 BP Italy go through. If Italy beat France without a bonus point but France get 2 BP then France Q1 and go through.
So it appears to me that as long as we get 5 points vs Uruguay we go through.

Yeah. No BP opens up the unthinkable: Italy win with 2x BPs, France get 2x BPs, leaves us on 14, both them on 15.
And yes you're right if we're all on 15: France would miss out.
