I don’t know who said it but Foxy was verrrrrry defensive on the breakdown.
If we smash the Wallabies, then it might be ok, but if not, we’re in trouble. He looks panicked.
The “panic” set in a long time ago for ol Foxy when he selected Brett Cameron for the ABs 😉
-
Is that the sign of them jumping the shark btw?
I was really surprised because he was clearly showing the pressure.

He was defensive, sounded like he has been reading the Fern ! That said more like he was defending team and management, which is what I would expect, nothing to see here.

@ACT-Crusader what does Fox do? Is he another one held over because of his AB days or is he a good guy to have a beer with. I have a general meh feeling about him but I could be wrong.

Tuipulotu and Tu'ungafasi were pushing forward quickly and making aggressive two man tackles in Super Rugby, but they didn't seem to be involved in that tactic on Sunday.
Foster's keeping the powder dry.

So straight to starting blindside it is..
Nah. Fozzie will probably pair him with Reiko in midfield.

wow. that's significant.
Even the reduced Sam Whitelock is miles better than the alternatives
Having said that, Vaa'i (apart from dumping one lineout and giving away the losing penalty that wasn't called ... ) wasn't awful ... (apart from those things).
This eh. Ref calls that clear penalty and this week Vaa'i would have been the subject of a heap of vitriole, and more ranting about the selections. But it doesn't get called and he hardly rates a mention.

Is Foxy well? It was a strange interview on the Breakdown. Maybe it was the lighting but the whites of his eyes looked yellow.

My issue with BB at 10 is in the past the backline just has not hummed with him, really static, and for some reason his kicking from hand in that position not inspiring either.
Yeah, lets not all forget that a huge portion of the shit play the ABs have served up over the last 3 years has had BB at 10. Individual brilliance aside, the backline and tactical play has been frustratingly poor for a long time.
Whoever the 10 is, I think they are going to struggle with these tactics of playing off scarps of ball and flinging it wide at the first opportunity without the forwards generating some momentum. That just leads to messy disjointed play in the backline. Then the ball gets kicked away.

@pukunui the last time we played direct through the forwards was vs Ireland in the QF. We pummelled them up the guts and peppered them with towering up and unders before all the razzle dazzle
The answer might be in this.
For those couple of years everyone seemed to be obsessed with Ireland because they beat us a couple of times.
Maybe so much energy and thought was put into them (ie. they loaded all the powder into the cannon.) that they had nothing left for England.A similar thing happened in 2015 when there was a huge build up to the Quarter with France who ended up being poor and the ABs were subsequently relatively flat in the Semi the next week. It was just we had a team full of all time greats to get us through.
I guess England fell into the same trap when they focussed so much on the ABs that the Boks were able to ambush them.
So maybe there was “powder” but it got loaded into the ireland cannon when it didn’t need to be.

Used to think his insights as a commentator were better than most of them , particularly with backline play .
Initially was a selector under Hansen, I was ok with that based on the above .
But not sure what he does now exactly, is there a change of roles ?
-
@kiwiinmelb Fox is still the 3rd selector with Foster and Plumtree.

@chimoaus said in Bledisloe Two: Auckland, October 18:
@Bovidae I wonder if Plumtree enjoys being the meat in that sandwich, he would be overruled by the old regime. I wonder how much sway he actually has.
I expect Plumtree has a big say on the selection of the forwards. Vaa'i's surprise selection is an example of that.

Wallaby fans must find it hilarious to see the hyperventilating about BB and RM, when they have O'Connor at 10. Excellent player but not a test standard flyhalf.
How he go compared to our guy on the weekend,
You want to swap BB or RM for him?
Well he'd definitely be in our squad

The backline tactics have been junk for ages. I wonder who the backline coach was 🤔
