At least we’re not Aussie.......

Hmmm....Jordie has an off match and now he's cake? Pretty rough. Can't say I would be uncomfortable with DMac there though, but Jordie has had some cracking plays in other matches.
Some of us have never considered Jordie to be the Golden Boy that others do. He's decent but I don't think he's deserves that 15 by right.

Take a chill pill. This was like that Rodders test in 2006. Hubris and some massive brain explosions. Take away those 2 ridiculous intercepts and that mindless penalty before half time and that's a 15 point win.
Relax, the ABs need losses like this to make sure it doesn't happen again.

@rancid-schnitzel That's what makes it so frustrating, we should have buried them. We made 600 odd running metres versus their 200 odd, it's crazy. We have these guys in our group at next year's WC. The last thing that was needed was the Boks getting some self belief that they can beat us. We need to put them away well in South Africa now and erode some of that belief.

@akan004 but isn’t that the great thing about sport, the unpredictability. A team might dominate on stat X or Y but still lose because the other team just does a couple of things that turn the game their way.
We lost this time and have a big opportunity to turn it around in a couple of weeks. Some players will need to look at their performance and hopefully learn a few things from it.
World Cups are strange beasts. You can come into it with a certain type of record but that means squat because you could turn up on that day and voila walk into a QF win!

I gotta say though Goodhue must start. As soon as he came on the back line looked untold better.
Sounds silly but he is the Dan a Carter of centres. Has sooooo much time on the ball and does the right thing every time.
That bok defence though. That was something else. For 80 mins too. Truly didn’t think they had the fortitude to do that
Yeah absolutely re Goodhue. He adds the punch that ALB just can't from centre (I think ALB is a 12 all day). Crotty was ok. ALB was persona non grata.
Agree. ALB is a 12 not centre. He had a game he will want to forget

Patrick also had a good game, some big runs and good tight work. Dropped one ball.
One of those drop balls was from a terrible low pass from TJP.
I didn't think Smith's passing was that great either by his standards. One of those games.

I was on a plane so didn't get to watch yet. But by the sounds of it they turned up and we had one of those games. Even then we only lost by 2 and could have won it on a late penalty shout not given? Better to take the odd loss know, hopefully it will learn us in time for Japan 2019

Well done Boks, that win is fair enough. Drove us back in many tackles and rattled the current 2 time world player of the year.
"Only as good as your last game"
2 stand outs for me:
Best example of goalkicking losing a game you'll ever see, perhaps the only example in professional rugby.
Lost to Boks at home because the antecedent of Don Clarke, Allen Hewson, Grant Fox, Andrew Mehrtens and Dan Carter ( to name a few) couldn't land kicks a 16 year old would nail!!??
That's not fucking happening again I should hope!
Secondly, can we plan for a half hour of possession and territory play, you know the type of percentage play that is the bedrock of All Black rugby, the stuff we forged our record with?
Only 30 mins worth, say if we get a start and the opposition fluke 2 tries and the lead, perhaps we could grind and play tight and patient for 25 mins or so. Can always helter skelter in the second half.Loved Karl T. today
Compulsory sing along in the sheds, Led Zeppelin, "Nobody's fault but mine"
6 tries and lose, dickheads😁

The supposed DMac is a headless chook and JB is solid is a myth
Gotta agree. JB seemed to do more dumb things tonight than DMac did in an AB shirt all of last year. He and (particularly) Goodhue were exceptional when they came on.
I wonder whether BB's place-kicking affects the other parts of his game and vice-versa as it seems to be a confidence thing with him. Wonder why Read didn't get DMac to convert the last AB try?

This is a good time to re-evaluate the forwards and game plan. We were too predictable and too eager to move it wide. Aaron Smith is part of the problem here. Even though he might be one of our better halfbacks as far as passing he did not read the game well last night. That’s why he was yanked early. Too many hospital passes and can I say predictable too many times.
We have been able to win with the flair of our backs for a while but we need to focus on setting the table with the forwards. Thanks Owen franks but we need more than a scrummager. Our subs in the forwards gave us front foot ball with some mistakes but they gave us the opportunity. We lacked that in the first half and possibly due to smith not directing play that way. We need some dynamic first, second and third phase forward play we were breaking the line and the players and strategy to do this. This will break up the predictability of spreading it wide every time.
-
Goal kicking didn't lose the game, it's a pretty simple concept of sliding doors. Who knows how differently both teams might have played if the kicks were converted? In my sliding doors imaginary world all the tries were converted and the boks went the length of the field to win in overtime.

Is it time to start DMac at 15 instead of JB if we're going to persist with BFA at 14? The supposed DMac is a headless chook and JB is solid is a myth and DMac actually had some decent test matches at 15 last year.
But, you can see that some posters still have DMac blinkers as he's getting some shit yet him and Goodhue added heaps when they came on (Goodhue more than DMac it must be said, he was on fire) and as @Mokey pointed out DMac was set for a drop goal for ages.
I think in the last 10 minutes, especially with the Boks down a man we overdid the ruck hit ups and should have spread wide, and I mean wide, not down the blind, earlier when defenders were being sucked in.
BB's general play outside his kicking was pretty average too, stupid kicks to the sideline and he was doing a weird hip pass thing to players with defenders on him.
ABs-fucken-lutely re the third paragraph. I made the comment earlier in the thread as it was happening. So frustrating and tactically disgusting.

You’re mixing up Cheika and Hansen there buddy. Hansen keeps his cool.
