The usual article that the Canes put on their website and social media, whenever they play in the Bay.
Hawke’s Bay has always been an important part of the Hurricanes club since its inception in 1996. That has included not only playing an important part on the Hurricanes schedule list but also providing some of its most influential players. From former captain Norm Hewitt, a foundation player at the Hurricanes, to current squad members Ihaia West, Gareth Evans and Ben May. Hawke’s Bay’s premier holiday resort, Kennedy Park, has also had a close association with the Hurricanes and to celebrate that we have put together an all time Canes Magpies XV. Selection was not easy, however, especially with the calibre of players available in the same position. There was a couple of positons that were slightly thin on options so some players, like Daniel Kirkpatrick, is slightly out of position in the XV. Starting at the back, we have chosen former Havelock North High School fullback Jarrod Cunninghman who sadly left us back in 2007. Cunningham, one of Hawke’s Bay’s favourite sons, was one of the most under-rated footballers of his era and deservedly would wear the No 15 jersey and be tasked with the goal kicking. He would be flanked on the wings by Robbie Fruean and former All Black Zac Guildford. The midfield would feature Magpie stalwart Richard Buckman and Kirkpatrick while Ihaia West and Danny Lee form the halves pairing. The pack is a formidable one with Gareth Evans playing off the back of the scrum with fellow loose forwards Karl Lowe and Mike Coman. The locks features another Evans, in Bryn, who would have played more games for the Hurricanes had he not headed overseas while he is joined in the second row by Mark Abbott, one of the Magpies best, while Ben Franks and Ben May are the two props selected. That leaves hooker where Hewitt takes the No 2 jersey as well as the captaincy. Kennedy Park Canes Magpies XV: Jarrod Cunningham, Robbie Fruean, Richard Buckman, Daniel Kirkpatrick, Zac Guildford, Ihaia West, Danny Lee, Gareth Evans, Karl Lowe, Mike Coman, Bryn Evans, Mark Abbott, Ben May, Norm Hewitt ©, Ben Franks
I hope @Nepia gets some tissues ready before reading this post....

@mn5 I love how even your banter is stuck in the past...been a few years since Nepia gave a toss about the Canes...
Would a Chiefs Magpie team beat a Canes Magpie team?
Only if the Chiefs signed Jonah Lowe.

Yeah, when they do their annual naming of this team it's always annoying to see the players they missed out on rather than the ones that actually played for the team.
Also, Norm Hewitt wasn't playing for the Magpies when in the Canes. Should have had Hika for his brief time, as they've included Buckman who the Canes deemed worthy 4 times only.
Anyway, I'm actually going to this match. First Canes match since the first year of the Hammettuer era I think.

@nepia Are you also going to the curtain raiser? I'd appreciate some feedback of the game if you're able to go.
I don't think I'll make it up there in time, but if I do I'll provide some feedback.

Another one heading overseas
TBH I feel the same way when Gopperth left. That is very happy. whereas Shields (big loss) and Thomson and Fatialofa are players that I would sooner stay (although Thomson is always injured)
I hope they start picking JGB soon.West is too flaky and runs in the opposite direction to avoid tackling

I'm talking about Hawkes Bay you ignoramus. A bit like how you'll always sneak an Eastbourne reference in if you can.

Welcome back Neps! I've been keeping your seat on the bandwagon warm. I'm sure you'll find it a much smoother ride than the Chiefs wagon.

Hahaha, yeah I'm not back, the Canes sit down with the Blues and the Highlander as the other teams I'll always support against everyone else. A smooth ride with the Canes must be disconcerting to the OG Canes fans.
It was actually pure luck that I'm going to this game, I didn't know it was on when I planned my trip.

Watched Rebels game last night. Canes looked very sharp. Pack actually seemed to be better sans Ardie. Is good to have some genuine competition for that spot.
It's good that the coaches seem to be managing BB much better this year. Seems there is more confidence in West than there was in Boychild (Black).

Beauden Barrett has been pulled from the line-up and Ihaia West will start. JGB comes onto the bench.
Grrr I have him in my fantasy team and no trades left to swap him out. This is unacceptable.

I thought it would be a easy win for the Canes. now I'm not sure with the poor tackling West starting. And coaches who seem to have a blind spot with him
