ABs v Scotland

An unexpected bonus is the fabulous Zinzan Brooke as part of the Pommie commentary, doing a very competent job. That would be the first time I have seen him in action since he went around, and held his place, among the best batch of back rowers the All Blacks have seen.

Our defence was so passive all night. Has been pretty poor all year as well.
Our defence was incredible tonight - seriously. We missed less tackles than Scotland even though we had to make 100 more.
.They made a lot of ground pretty easily. We lacked line speed. Yeah our tackling was good but had Scotland been more clinical, they would have scored a couple more tries.
They ran less metres from 60 odd more runs though. I don't think they made many metres at all until the very end. They just kept the ball well.
We missed chances too. We probably should have scored when Barrett did the forward pass in the first half, there was the attacking scrum which we turned over and the intercept which saved them.
-
Scotland’s tactic appeared to be hold onto possession and have very quick line speed. On the whole it worked well except they lacked the finishing ability and their scrum was weak. They had some beautiful phase play and scored some nice tries.
The ABs seem to lack composure and do some dumb shit which releases any sort of pressure and hands the ball back. The ABs seem to fail at controlling the ball at the moment.

Hhmmm, doesn't sound like a game worth watching...
Hope we up our game next week, hate to lose to Gatlands team.
While we are still missing a raft of frontline players, just basics like catching and passing seem to be a stretch at present and have done all year.

With Australia and South Africa doing so well on this end of year tour, and us just holding on to beat the Scots, I’m still of the view that Hansen and Foster aren’t half as clever as they think they are this year...
Or maybe our resident Scottish Kiwi is right, and they really should have had more players in the Lions...

Scotland in. WTF Why didn't Rieko tackle?
Rieko was a passenger in the last 10 mins as he seemed to be favouring his right arm.

Cane back on. Hames doing well for somebody who can’t scrum. Squire can’t find support after nice run.
You mean he was a ball hog and forgot to pass to Lima? If he couldn't find the support, he needs better lenses.
That was poor by Squire, and Taylor was also guilty of butchering a try by taking too long to pass.

None of them demanded selection in all honesty except Hogg.

The problem in a nutshell - and not taking anything away from the Jocks performance. Seems to be a major problem when we think we are going to win easily - eg. Zinzan's "show no mercy" BS.
Hansen looked pissed-off at the post match interview. Have a feeling they might be expected to sharpen up before the Taffs.

@stargazer I've been pretty lucky, my PF doesnt affect me at all.
-
Very brave performance from the Scots. They're not easybeats any more.
As for the abs. I really farking hope they are holding something back because the tactics and moves are absolutely dire. This flat bullshit in the back line is killing their ability to create anything. People here get down on BB or Lima, but wtf is any 10 supposed to do when they have zero space and time?
But as has been mentioned above, the handling and execution this year across the entire team has been very very ordinary. As has the discipline. So many completely unnecessary penalties.
Not been a vintage year by any means.

@taniwharugby Lucky indeed. Or I was unlucky, I don't know. I was limping (due to pain and swelling) for at least two months. Ruined a holiday.
-
I'm not sure I'd agree with that, having watched Scotland's backrow outplay Wales' and imo, get the better of Ireland's, I think Barclay and Watson, possibly Hardie too, were unlucky to not tour. Nel was injured of course or he would have probably been the starting tighthead. Gatland went with what he knew, and I can see the point in that, but there was some politics involved in it all - Townsend turned down a coaching role and there looked to be a bit of a pouted lip from Gats over that.

I've had it for 5 years, for a while in both feet. So you weren't that unlucky.

mine is just in my right foot, doesnt affect anything so I havent required surgery (first diagnosed in about 2002)

When does Crockett finally retire? I'm sick of that muppet. Cane's YC was because Crockett shoved him over the ruck.

I haven’t read any of the thread since last night, so apologies for covering any topics that have already been discussed.
Firstly well done to Scotland in bringing it to the ABs, they played positive attacking rugby and it nearly paid off.
However their ball handling skills were lacking when it counted and that was their undoing. The ABs, well well well, it feels like Groundhog Day AGAIN.
Dropped balls, forward passes, poor decision making, poor discipline.
BB, why the flipping hell is receiving the ball standing so flat footed and deep? Understand it may be a tactic to avoid the rush defence teams are implementing against us, but come on mate you can’t sit back all the time it’s putting to much pressure on the centres.
We kicked the ball away at stupid times, like when we’ve got good front foot ball, not only that often the kick was really poor - straight to where Hogg was waiting to gobble it up.
We appear to be lacking leadership at times when we are under pressure, a little bit understandable when you consider who we are missing and hopefully a really big learning curve for these guys.
Another really frustrating performance and I for one can’t wait for the season to finish.
Roll on 2018 so we can get some of our top team back on the field. -

Roll on 2018 so we can get some of our top team back on the field. If you want to blame someone, blame the coaches. Neither BB nor Lima play like that normally. They're doing what they're told to do and it's wrecking their natural games. If those are going to be the tactics from now on (God forbid) then put BB somewhere else and chuck a battering ram at 10. It's so incredibly frustrating other teams using space and getting it wide, while the only AB back move seems to be a centre hitting it up.
Like I said, I hope to christ this is just building up to something better because there is no way they can continue like this.
