@nta enjoy the win Nick
Well done Australia great game tonight!
Yup fair play to @NTA. He comes here and puts up with us - he deserves the victory.
-
The exciting thing for the Wallabies was their forwards - Coleman, Dempsey, Tui, McMahon and even Hooper flying into everything. A couple of years ago Wallabies were trying to find just one forward.
Credit to Chieka - from the mess he was given after Super Rugby he has engineered quite the turnaround.
-
Just reminding everyone. We didn't have Moody, Franks, Retallick, BB, Dagg and BFA (and Jordie). Looking at 2019, things aren't that bad if these players are available, and they keep on developing the newbies (and bringing in more & better players) to iron out the weaknesses.

Tui was good eh. how was his workrate smashing the ball up as compared that huge lump of lazy niggle preceding him as bench lock?
-
Was tossing up earlier today whether Barrett or Retallick was the bigger loss.
It's actually hard to call but maybe Barrett squeaks it for the sake of execution.
I don't think the first half plan was necessarily wrong - pin us back, kick points when available in the wet, try to build some pressure and accrue a try or two. The odd contestable kick worked well.
Just that occasionally Sopoaga didn't get it quite right, and we settled on Aaron Smith's kicks better as the game went along. And of course SBW with that.. thing at the end.
Barrett might have given some of those through kicks just a bit more venom, or taken the line on a couple more times.

@nta what was the half-time possession count?
Felt like the AB's had 25% possession second halfDon't know. Missed those ones but you kicked a lot away, while we dropped a lot. Suspect it was pretty even
-
@nta AB's just not clinical enough, again, missing that leadership the 2015 squad had.
I still feel like the Wallabies need to find a decent 10. I feel that to be in the top echelon of international teams, if you don't have that then you're going to struggle when it counts.
When did Foley get so shite at kicking? I thought he was a bit of a dead-eye. 9, 11-15 had a good balance for you guys tonight, bench included. -
@nepia said in BLEDISLOE 3:
@akan004 Did DMac do that much wrong tonight? I don't remember any howlers (but I may be wrong)?
What did DMAC actually add?
He muffed an early handling chance, he missed a conversion to tie the game, he got overpowered for a loose ball off a lineout shortly after that, he got overpowered for a try (both of these probably cos hes tiny). His field kicking was average.
He created absolutely nothing for anybody else - he made one small break off a kick return once that I saw - that was it.
He got ragdolled several times (again coming back to being tiny).
-
@westcoastie perhaps. You weren't missing the leadership in Dunedin - I think we just had a few percentage points up front without BBBR there, and with Dempsey instead of Hanigan at 6 our furry was better.
Foley has had a weird season for kicking. Some nights he could barely miss. Others he can't hit.
My theory is this: take the first 2 opportunities for 3 points, as long as they're within his range. If he can't get them, change to Beale or Hodge. Let Foley think about playing 10 for a bit, come back to him after the break.
I would love to see Pommy fans quietly shit themselves and Hodge slams one over from 55 out.
-
@nta And without BB in the backline also, and I think Ben Smith too
-
What fucks me off about this was the fucking MORONIC fucking mistakes we made.
Time after fucking time after FUCKING time.
Especially when we got on attack.

@stargazer feels about right I spose... is it odd that I wonder that when you add some of those starts together theres a missing 1 or 2% here or there.
Like overall territory 52 & 46 = 98%, was the other 2% of the game played in the changing rooms? or a remote atoll somewhere?
56 + 43 = 99% possession? Did the Ball Boy get 1%Theres going to be a minor-party asking for representation soon chuckle chuckle
-
@westcoastie The numbers not always adding up is, I think, due to rounding.
-
@booboo Is the difference in on-field leadership between Richie McCaw & Kieran Read starting to come through?
Too often, we just do dumb-shit lately.
Does Kieran just not have the Mana Richie had? hard to imagine TJP or SBW making dumb kicks if Richie was boss.
Wonder if a few egos are a bit out of check... -

But but but ......we would have smoked them if Akira iaoane was playing apparently (despite the fact that he's a lazy piece of shit that hasn't earned his place)
-
Just lacking a bit of cutting edge on attack I thought. Lima is very good, but he doesn't take the line on like BB. The aussies did a good job in shackling our midfield and wings, Sonny played great but we just lacked penetration
-
Worth looking at a Cane, Todd, Read starting combo, Squire from the bench?
-
At the risk of sounding all English media ... finally, all the off the ball shit the AB's do costs us.
Barnes awarded two penalties against us at crucial times, both when we were in a middle of a good run, and both of needless, pointless off the ball rubbish. We take a lot of criticism from a lot of corners about the cleanest of non tacklers, past the ruck etc, and some of it is duly deserved. And today, these actions went along way to the Wallabies winning the match.
Momentum was everything this match - we had it in the first 30 mins, then the Aussies had it the next 30. Then twice when we had it again, we were penalised for needless, stupid, pointless with no upside, off the ball crap.
I hope this is a learning experience, and turning point.

Haha lazy piece of shit. Tell us what you really think.
What did Squire do to earn his place out of interest? Or Fifita?

Wonder if a few egos are a bit out of check...I think you’re overstating it. Plenty of dumb play under Richie’s reign. Remember all the pointless grubber kicks by MacAllister and Weepu....
-
@act-crusader True.
But at least Luke went out of the team post 2007, and Piri sorted his shit by the 2011 RWC so alls forgiven there..

I'm glad you said it.
One of the issues with the interpretation of Law in Rugby is the winners-are-grinners syndrome. Get away with something for long enough, you see it as a right of sorts.
When a ref finally pings you for it, suddenly THEY are at fault.
Of course, the opposition has to be close enough for it to matter, which is a rare thing for the ABs of late.
-
@nta indeed ... look, it's part of the game and we aren't alone in doing it, but I do think it's crept more and more into being a decent sized part of our game.
Barnes wasn't wrong to penalise us today, but on many other days, nothing would have been blown.
As I said, I hope we learn from this.
-
There were always going to be scratchy performances this year with the personnel changes and young players coming in.
But we have been here before. In 2012 after that Brisbane draw there were some signs that things weren’t right. We then went on to lose to England in a very convincing win to the Poms.
2010 Bledisloe series seems eerily similar to this year. First Bledisloe we won convincingly and then the next three were very scratchy performances.
-
On a related matter: while this is unnecessary from Coles on Beale, there isn't much in it.
However, Coles looks a right twat carrying on for the rest of the game with niggle.
-

-
The sky is falling, haha
How many losses would you guys be willing to stomach to ensure Ian Foster doesn't take over as coach?
Well, let's keep this question for 2019, and keep the stellar record until then.Personally, I'd hope we lose 50% of matches in 2019, win the RWC, and do a clean sweep of the coaching team.
-
Let’s just admit it the SBW/Crotty combination is a failure and the ABs cannot be great with that combo.
-
Was hoping I was wrong , but I kinda saw that coming ,
Wallabies are improving , they had more to play for , and ours was a bit of a thrown together team ,
in a game where all the trophies are already put away ,it shouldnt matter , but subconsciously it always does when the chips are down ,
But the wallabies are better , that is undeniable , which is good for rugby

People are going on about the errors but the stats show Australia made twice as many errors as we did. Our handling was actually quite good. We just conceded more penalties and kicked away so much ball.
-
And missed so many more tackles too.

Retallick. Barrett (lock) is miles below Retallick. Whereas the gap between Sopoaga and BB isn't as great. Maybe the selectors need to have a good look at Garden Bachop.
-
Just watched it, and fuck me that was the dumbest most stupid attacking play I’ve seen from the ABs in a long time.
Shovelling shit ball backwards and sideways, aimless kicking, giving away really dumb penalties while on attack. And that fucking kick from Havilli when you need a try with 4 minutes to play and you’re attacking inside the 22.
What happened to the pick and go after they used it to create the space for our first try - it was unsighted again.
And just errors at crucial times killed our chances in that game.DMac’s decision making was poor at the back and really put us under pressure.
They say defence wins matches, and the physicality we defended with should have been enough to get the job done with just a little bit of smart play. But unfortunately we so so fucking clueless when we had the ball that impressive defence was neutralised.
-
@gunner Foster.
-
Of the starting 15 last night, we were probably missing at least 6 first choice players. It has probably been awhile since we have been that short? In contrast the wallaby side was near full strength?
- (Moody)
- Coles
- (Franks)
- Whitelock
- (BBBR)
- (Kaino)
- Cane
- Read
- Smith
- (BB)
- Ioane
- SBW
- Crotty?
- (Dagg/NMS)
- (Smith)
I think the game highlighted we are missing some depth at lock, 6,8,10 and the midfield just isn't clicking consistently.
This wallaby side outplayed us and deserved to win. Plenty for the coaches to think about.
