It's the unhinged reactions in the box that annoys me because it gets far more attention than it deserves during the telecast. IMO it's not a great look, and seems a tad unstable for the head coach.
I'm going to be in a very small minority, but I love it. And most of my friends love it too.
I don't know when we all decided that a coach needs to sit motionless in the box for all 80 minutes. I like that Cheika feels the way that I do, that he rides the highs and lows. I found it refreshing when he came to the Tahs, and I still like it.
I'm not a mad Cheika acolyte, though he shepherded my Tahs to a title WITH THE HELP OF POOR REFFING FROM JOUBERT so will forever be in my heart. My criticism of him comes back to selection and tactics far more than behavior in the box or the presser.
And of course you guys hate him, and that's fine. I'm happy for him to be a bit of a lightening rod, it might even take a bit of focus off our players. Our game is always better having a few villains I reckon.

I don't mind a bit of reaction that is only natural during a contest, but every call?
Yep. No crime in getting pissed off if the call is really poor. But he loses his shit over everything. As someone who continually complains about poor treatment by the refs, he's benefited at the most vital times from poor decisions. It was an absolute howler that saved him from a humiliating RWC QF exit. Imagine how he'd react if he was the end of a Barnes or Garcia's type shocker? He'd probably have to be physically restrained.
I see nothing refreshing or funny with his antics. Funny how those that do also think the same way about guys like Kyrios. If grown men acting like petulant, spoiled children is your thing then fair play to you. I'm just glad no AB coach acts like that.

Foley was rattled by being in a team in the lead. Not something he gets to experience much with the Waratahs

I quite like MC's passion in the box. At the pressers he needs to learn not to lead with his chin.
One of my mates reckons shifty knees going into every AB the Wobblies thought had strayed into the wrong side near rucks. Didn't notice it myself.

I don't mind coaches being passionate. As someone else mentioned Meyer was entertaining to watch. Difference with Cheika is that he doesn't get excited at the good things his team are doing or get upset when they make a mistake. His 'passion' is solely directed at the on field decision making and that makes him look like a football manager or basketball coach. I'd like to think rugby is better than that.

I'd like to see if that holds true for the whole game. Let's remember that the OB director is solely responsible for what we get to see of Cheika in the box.

Nah, he celebrates - just hasn't had a great deal to celebrate against us. And he was going off his head at Foley missing kicks too.
I think his antics re decision making are way over the top and strongly dislike them.
Hansen takes it a bit too far into dead fish territory, often hard to tell if he's even awake -but I much prefer that approach to histrionics. -

Have to say that, on reflection, I expect it was a rehearsed Lions tactic to disrupt such restarts. I imagine their homework had identified just how dangerous ABs are from such plays.

Well, he is an Aussie after all!
My gripe is more that it's not helpful for his team's chances. Better would be something like, 'Disappointed because I thought we did enough to win. But very proud of the team. It's a young bunch of men and if we keep playing like that the wins will come'.

I agree, they are fantastic. I also enjoy the Rugby Report Card podcast which is now available on Green and Gold. Lots of swearing but they present a fair and unbiased analysis.
