Zarn Sullivan stood a few times as a first receiver against the Tahs and looked impressive there. But it was only the Tahs and I guess McDonald will keep BB as his 1st Five. I really hope he can prove his worth next year as a 1st Five.
Interesting that nobody has mentioned Josh Ioane. He was good in the few minutes he played for the Chiefs this year, before his injury. I am not sold on his ability to control a game, though. -
@Chris One thing that could work, would be letting URC, MLR and Japanese Top League players have the opportunity to play NPC and become eligible to play for the ABs. The argument against this is that it would open the floodgates. End of the day Super Rugby players needs to be paid more and if they can find a solution to that problem, no one would be leaving Super Rugby at the rate they are,

Jordie comes across as barely having the brains to run in the right direction. Can hardly see him being a game general despite his physical qualities

He's played in 4 diff positions for the ÀBs so must follow instructions and speaks well enough

Don’t need someone that follows instructions. More one that runs the show.
I have only watched him play live twice and both times it was the players around him directing him.
Absolutely he can run, kick and pass and has the size and athleticism to play multiple positions at a high level but he’s no game runner.
A bigger version of BB. -

I don't get the DC comparisons because physically they are such different players. The player he is most similar to IMO is Jordie Barrett. A very physical fullback with a huge boot. He's only slightly smaller than him and is still putting on muscle - 1.93m and 101kg
That would be enormous in comparison to previous AB 10s. Donald would be the closest specialist ten in the last couple of decades and he was 1.9 and 96kg
He could convert to ten and do well but I suspect his size and shape is more suited to fullback
When I compare him to DC I am referring to his ability to make things look easy and to make it look like he has all the time in the world. There is an economy of movement about him. Generic words I know, but I can't think of any other player around in NZ like that. Maybe someone else can explain it better

A 10 that has time on the ball is the optimal.
I can only draw parallels with cricket and the way players like Tendulkar in his prime seemed able to go and have a sip of tea while deciding what shot to play.I recall reading an article about Crowe like that, he just had more time than other players and yet never seemed to be hurried, yes, Carter had that at times too.
I'd agree that 1.9/1.93 or more is too big and slow for a 10 for most people, (including I think JB) but Sullivan just seems to have that extra time and class.
I could well be proven wrong though. But I suspect he has more ceiling at 10 than Perofeta and current BB.
Edit: and at 15 he seems quite a similar player to Shaun Stevenson; it would be a shame if they only directly compete at 15 (although I guess the AB coaches would ease in the latter at wing).
