I got burnt by Bleyendaal when watching him at age group level and he looked to be the next Carter, remember he had an astounding boot too. Then he turned fucking awful considering. I'll never see it the same again at age group...

A real life burn or a fern burn ? I don't think the latter really counts or else none of us would show up.....

If it's any consolation I'm still waiting for Koula Tukino, Dominic Feaunati and/or Roy Kinikinilau to become the next Jonah.......
-
Fern burns hurt the most. Especially when everyone else starts "liking" the burn. It can be psychologically devastating.

Completely agree, but not gonna "like" it in case I upset someone.

This forum is like a cage fight in which you're outnumbered if you're not careful.
-

No it isn't.

Back me up here boys.
-
There wouldn't be a poster (regular that is) that's predicted someone would be a star/AB and turned out to be a 'Meh'.

While we're confessing, mine was Angus MacDonald. I thought he would be a regular AB and even push to be a leader.... -

Mine was Scott Hamilton...he just needed more opportunities. :)
-

checks to see how far back the forum archive goes

I have never pinned my colours to the mast of a player who has gone on to disappoint.

thanks the lord that my "Adam Thomson for a regular AB spot" fetish has disappeared into the ether
-

I remember thinking Rudi Wulf was going to be the real deal when i first saw him,

Cant remember exactly why , I think i thought as a winger he had a bit of class about him
-

Mine was Telusa Veainu. I still think he could have been if he got more opportunities, though. Seemed to do well over in the UK and for Tonga.
-
I had a bit of man love for Hayden Pedersen. Sadly I forgot to think about the fact he was an absolute midget. Also there was his off field anger issues and his propensity to hit random people on the piss. My other man love is finally coming to fruition, with Elliot Dixon, I have been pumping him since U20s... I even said to friends before the final last year, that if he has a MOM performance then we will win. Oh and yip, I was also a fan of another midget Otago outside back, thinking Glen Horton could be an All Black.

I think those with any man love for Richard Buckman will be similarly disappointed.
-
Mine was Cory Jane...

Yeah there were few on here touting Luke Braid as an AB -

Only IRB young player of the year not to make it - although Atinga and Thrush did barely. If McCaw shuffled on earlier or got a bit more injured he probably makes it.

Not really sure when/how Cane and Todd passed him. Maybe had to leave the Cheifs behind Cane, Lats, Lee and Messam earlier? -
Peter Saili is one I kept waiting to be awesome.

Mine Brad Shields.

Back in the day Sam Harding. -
Marty McKenzie
