I am a wildlife photographer and have done this for many years and I am very confident in my abilities. Just because I have a great camera and know how to use it doesn't mean I could shoot a wedding and be good at it. I tried recently and fuk me I felt like a fish out of water. The only way to get those skills is time on the job and experience.

Rugby is no different, you can't expect a bloke to play all his minutes at 15 then automatically be excellent on the wing. Sure, some skills transfer over but those instinctive skills and reading of the game only come with time.

I read a book somewhere about habits and how over time our brain performs functions on its own, so we don't have to think about it. I can only imagine a 13 who has played numerous times can read the offensive players quickly and accurately and be moving in the right direction without thinking. This constant shifting of players just gives me the shits.

@chimoaus the photographer might be able to take amazing photos down at the local zoo and the best there is around the area, but get him out into the jungle and on a safari with a few other photographers and he’s no longer taking the photos he once was or is the leader of the pack...

@NTA I think if we beat the Wobs well with the same old shit, it will be satisfying but it is just a matter of time before the wheels fall off again. It is the same old problems and absolutely no new innovation that has people worried. The game is changing and the national side is stuck in the same place.
Compare that to the Wobs who seem to be on an upwards path and it is irrelevant if they win or lose on Saturday. It is just a matter of time before they pull ahead of the NZ if the ABs don't innovate and change.

I was wondering what an in form England or SA would have done to that team in the weekend.

I'd at least like to see some new stuff, a bit of the attacking flair that the chiefs had under him (obviously better defence) but so far just more from the Hansen coaching book, which seemed to be less interesting post-wayne smith as well.

Same place the Wallabies have been in for years. Victory can make you complacent.

Compare that to the Wobs who seem to be on an upwards path and it is irrelevant if they win or lose on Saturday. It is just a matter of time before they pull ahead of the NZ if the ABs don't innovate and change.

Yeah but that is kind of an obvious statement to make - you don't move forward, you are going backwards, like business..

TBH I thought you didn't really grow that much under Hansen because the victories across the board weren't particularly hard won, and you started running out of RWC2007 people who drew a line in the sand and said "never again".

All that said, it is a little early to draw statements based off one result from the weekend. The temptation to get into a funk happens every so often with AB fans I've noticed, especially when you're not handing out a thrashing as a matter of course.

However, this time I think particularly it is being viewed harshly through the following lenses:

    • The decision to take Foster and not even consider Rennie until it was too late
    • The belief that Super Rugby Aotearoa was vastly superior to Super Rugby AU (and it might still prove to be)
    • The utter dysfunction that Rugby Australia fell into earlier in the year
    • The more recent dysfunction that NZR appear to have embraced as standard operating procedure

I think we should give this until the end of October before we start drawing and quartering the AB coaching staff. I'll be at the Bledisloe with a stack of people from my club (half of them bloody Kiwis) so we'll know more around 10PM Sydney time on October 31st.

Probably the same thing an in form All Blacks would have done.

I was initially prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt, but I'm teetering on the edge.

To my mind he's fucked up twice:

    1. Selection: Picking four players out of position, and bland placeholding type players
    2. Performance: if the above team had performed it may have excused the selection. But it didn't.

I was wanting to do a longer rant but don't have time, but to me it seems he wants to be a bit cutesy and reinvent rugby. By that I mean he seems to have picked two 1st 5s, playing them in numbers 10 and 15, and two fullbacks at 11 and 14 to cover the 2nd 1st 5/8.

    Over complicated?

Rugby has developed the positions it has over 150 odd years as that seems to be the best way to play it.

His midfield pissed me off no end.

And Ardie as our heavy hitter.

I am very neutral on Fozzie at the moment.

If thats neutral, I cant wait to see you angry

And I totally agree with him but I'd go even further, what clever tactic, move or strategy have we seen from Foster since he joined the AB coaching team? And how long ago?

I quite liked how at halftime he told them to go out and do the same move the Aussies did before halftime.
