This year is a write off, so he has the opportunity to try something new. Will be disappointed if the team is too safe.

Players like Clarke and Sotutu should be starting, and Iโ€™d like to see a clear direction for six.

New Coach in his first match? No chance on not being safe. Who would do that? That would be so arrogant and I would like that but surely SURELY he's not that silly.

Have to pick the best players and those in form.

Not necessarily, you have to select the best combinations for the team. Sometimes that is reverting to type. I think it will be safe as houses.

Thatโ€™s what Iโ€™m predicting as well, I donโ€™t think he has it in him to take a selection risk.

The kinds that gave us Wilson and Lomu at 19.

Let's be frank - Lomu at 19 was terrible. Lomu at 20 on the other hand was out of this world.

But would have Lomu at 20 have been that without Lomu at 19? I'm not so sure.

Nothing wrong with his attacking skills at 19, he still trampled a few frogs.

My main concern with Fozzie is he has been in that Hansen environment for so long I wonder if he knows much different. I suspect 'he' could see what Hansen was doing 'wrong' and thought he had the answers. If that first game is any guide, then it might be a little more difficult than he anticipated. I'll reserve judgement until after a few games but that first one looked no different to the last few years.

I believe he is the first AB coach in history to have neither a winning or losing record after their first test in charge. Good on Ian ๐Ÿ˜‰

Iโ€™m willing to support him as long as he reads my starting XV emails like Steve did.

I was initially prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt, but I'm teetering on the edge.

To my mind he's fucked up twice:

    1. Selection: Picking four players out of position, and bland placeholding type players
    2. Performance: if the above team had performed it may have excused the selection. But it didn't.

I was wanting to do a longer rant but don't have time, but to me it seems he wants to be a bit cutesy and reinvent rugby. By that I mean he seems to have picked two 1st 5s, playing them in numbers 10 and 15, and two fullbacks at 11 and 14 to cover the 2nd 1st 5/8.

    Over complicated?

Rugby has developed the positions it has over 150 odd years as that seems to be the best way to play it.

His midfield pissed me off no end.

And Ardie as our heavy hitter.

I am very neutral on Fozzie at the moment.

Sums up my position, but am prepared to give him two more games to prove me he has something new. I don't see that happening because he seems to be massively risk averse, almost fearful.

The weirdest thing for me about Fozzie, is he had 2 pretty even players in one position, with one of them from the BOP, and he chose the BOP option and made him captain. My mind is blown, his Chiefs modus operandi was to freeze out BOP players and force him to sign overseas if he wants to make a living.

    Never forget.

In NZ, this is the screaming understatement of the century.

Iโ€™d love to take credit for that one but that one is all on Steve ๐Ÿ˜‰

I had T. Chief x2 in my XV

@booboo many AB coaches have picked multiple players out of position in a single test and lost the match. We were discussing one yesterday on another thread.

Whilst not ideal, itโ€™s not unexpected given history.

I am a wildlife photographer and have done this for many years and I am very confident in my abilities. Just because I have a great camera and know how to use it doesn't mean I could shoot a wedding and be good at it. I tried recently and fuk me I felt like a fish out of water. The only way to get those skills is time on the job and experience.

Rugby is no different, you can't expect a bloke to play all his minutes at 15 then automatically be excellent on the wing. Sure, some skills transfer over but those instinctive skills and reading of the game only come with time.

I read a book somewhere about habits and how over time our brain performs functions on its own, so we don't have to think about it. I can only imagine a 13 who has played numerous times can read the offensive players quickly and accurately and be moving in the right direction without thinking. This constant shifting of players just gives me the shits.

@chimoaus the photographer might be able to take amazing photos down at the local zoo and the best there is around the area, but get him out into the jungle and on a safari with a few other photographers and heโ€™s no longer taking the photos he once was or is the leader of the pack...

@NTA I think if we beat the Wobs well with the same old shit, it will be satisfying but it is just a matter of time before the wheels fall off again. It is the same old problems and absolutely no new innovation that has people worried. The game is changing and the national side is stuck in the same place.
Compare that to the Wobs who seem to be on an upwards path and it is irrelevant if they win or lose on Saturday. It is just a matter of time before they pull ahead of the NZ if the ABs don't innovate and change.
