The had exactly the same thing about 20 years ago. I remember Bull Allen doing his thing for the Canes. Think Cullen was injured at the time. I remember it being a pretty good concept. Not sure why it has been shelved for so long.<br><br>

<p>From a coach's point of view it's a bit disrupting as it's not really a chance to sort combinations, lineout drills or really too much in terms of 15 a side tactics. </p>

<p>Given the squad sizes will be 35-36 players, I doubt there is much room for the main players not to be there. Most of the big name players will have one maybe two hitouts for a half or so in a preseason game. With the financial incentives I think there will be genuine interest from the franchises to do well so will send quality</p> -

Sounds like a right balls up already.
How the hell does that even work? Do pool a and b just have to suck it up and play an extra game? Or do pool c & d have to randomly play one team in their pool twice?Either way, totally unbalanced and unfair.
Makes a bit of a mockery of the whole thing before it has even begun. -
you'd think they of had more than 14 wanting in, so there must be a reason for it surely, rather than oh shit 14 doesn't divide into 4 evenly

Surely at least 2 more Saffa teams would have been keen. And/or the Argies. -

If true, then that's really disappointing. Also a bit harsh on the likes of DMac, Rieko Ioane, TKB, George Moala and Lima Sopoaga, who didn't get much game time during the EOYT, and JBarrett & Seta Tamanivalu (called up late) who didn't play at all for the ABs.
Edited to add that there's also a positive: second-stringers and players on the fringes of the ABs, who haven't made the squad (yet), will hopefully get decent game time. Players like James Lowe, Jordan Taufua, Brad Weber, Richie Mo'unga etc.

should come as no surprise really, the collective agreement states they must have the 12 week window after EOYT, been that way for a while hasn't it?
