Crusaders vs Canes
-

I'm just astounded to read Caners actually played. I didn't pick that at all.

You just made me realise I even went to the same school as Ardie. In Christchurch of course. In the 80s.

Don't be ridiculous. Ardie didn't go to school he was genetically constructed from DNA of Michael Jones, Richie McCaw, Pinetree Meads and Stephen Adams ( that's where he gets the height from )
-

Tough call eh. My memory struggles going back to the nineties. Rodders? Depends how much longer Coles sticks around. I'm surprised he's 29! -

With all due respect to some bloody honest campaigners the bar isn't set particularly high. JC deserves a mention. Bull Allen, Norm Hewitt and Filo Tiatia were pretty inspirational for awhile but there's not many others that make ya gasp in awe.

Loads more options in the backs though.
-

Pretty much have to be Jerry, Rodders or Dane Coles already?

Second line of Hore, Tialata, Thrush, Mulletman.

Probably someone (or several) obvious ones I'm overlooking?

Pickings seem a bit thin. Ardie might already make the all-time Canes eight!
-

Jerry Collins, Rodney So'oialo were handy forwards?

Dane Coles looks set to have a half decent career?
-

Currently the canes forward with the greatest impact on their success is Smiley Barrett. Specifically his cock and balls.
-

They're like the reverse Crusaders, who would have Ralph and Hamilton in their greatest 8 backs. -

Hey...we can field World Cup winning All Black Zac Guildford on the wing if we want!

Luckily for our greatest back we can smugly just pick Danny Boy and not think too hard beyond that. :)
-

I was always a big Kupu Vanisi fan. He formed a pretty formidable trio with Rodders and JC. -

Kupu Vinisi says get the fuck out. And scooter. And masoe. -

Herring was a fine super rugby flanker too.

-

All this just reinforces the fact the Canes have probably never had a truly World Class forward of McCaw/Read/Whitelock/Woodcock/Mealamu/Kaino like quality.......( although a few come very close )

.....and yet the fans constantly wank on about how it's such a travesty they've never won a title.
-

Agree, he was a superb openside. I was pretty surprised they didn't give him a shot in the abs in 2001 and went for Taine Randell at openside.
-

He was a step down from Vanisi though, I think they signed purely because he happened to catch Richie on a rare off day and got the better of him in an npc game . Kupu changed his mind and wanted to sign on for another season and they said no because they'd signed Herring .
-

Herring had some outstanding games for the canes, IIRC was very good v the Lions in 2005...I was never that taken by Vanisi TBH
