All Blacks vs Argentina I

@reprobate Finau is a good lineout option but they hardly threw to him against England. That's on S Barrett.
Speaking of loose forward heights, Sititi is listed as 1.87 m. Savea 1.88-1.90 m.
Well, he has had a haircut since the initial measurements were taken

Hard to determine how good Argentina are relative to how bad Uruguay are but Argentina played a very simple game plan at pace, with exemplary execution
Interesting with all the hand wringing and meddling the SH have towards the 6N and how the 6N teams should be playing other European teams more, this was the first full cap meeting between the two countries in 9 seasons
It's a 5hr drive between Buenos Aries and Montevideo

Anyone have opinions on Cameron Suafoa as the 6?
Workrate? Speed?
Doesn't lack for grunt.Good lineout, and does the hard carries which Ray so covets. No sure how hard his shoulders are!

@MiketheSnow considering Maori have played Spain more than the home Nations have had tests (RWC not withstanding), a similar proposition you can argue that any way you want

True
But for many of those matches I would posit the similar standard of both teams made it a sensible contest

World Cup semi finalists, were playing our best available side for this one.
we're ?

@MiketheSnow I am a dyslexic. It's a small miracle I can spell anything at all.

Best available team for both Pumas games, both SA games and once the Bledisloe is secure. Then best available team for every match on Northern Tour. If someone is at 75%, sure give them a break. Need to go back to the only game that matters is the next one and pick the best team for it.
-
We entered this year super thin in a few positions because the last two years every game was a must win and the same old side rolled out.
We have to start playing some new guys, or we will enter the next RWC with some broken old men and lots of barely-played newbs.
Edit: and by "playing" I mean playing under red hot conditions, like in South Africa. Merely giving the next tier of players a spell or two in lighter games simply is not preparing them, or the team, properly.
Whose to say that the new guys aren't better? We'll never know if we never give them a chance.

@Chester-Draws plug in one or two at a time though, not 5 or 6 at once

It's time to start Sititi and Proctor

I think these next two tests are a perfect opportunity to find out what that “best” team is. My summary of the backs.
I reckon the selectors think that they could start any of Reece, Clark or MT in a tough test match. Not dissimilar to when Henry could play different combinations of Rok, Howlett, Sivi (and even Gear). Clark, Reece
Fullback remains a question mark. A state of flux, genuine transition or holding for Jordan? Jordan is an unknown at fullback at test level, but Razor likes him there at Super level. Beaudie js rocks and diamonds (but I’m a fan). Perofeta has a few caps now and has looked sharp-ish. Wide open
I think the midfield is Jordie and Ioane with ALB on the bench. But now that they have seen Proctor in a black jersey and also has a franchise combo with Jordie, they could make a change. Likewise if they wanted to ALB and Ioane have test experience together. Jordie, Ioane
Unlike the pendulum that was Barrett and Mo’unga, Rangi has DMac running the cutter and bar injury we should see him start most of not all tests. Beaudie provides an able backup but Insuspect we will see 80 minute DMac from here on in (ala peak Carter period). DMac
If ever there was an example of why young talented players should be played, our recent experience at halfback is case in point. This spot is wide open right now with Roigard’s absence. I don’t have any doubt in my mind that if he were fit for England 1 he would’ve started. Now with Perenara injured we got a chance to see Ratima make a difference. Christie brings a defensive game that would be appealing and is not unlike a young Perenara. But if he is first choice we would have to live with his attacking deficiencies. Something that we had to in previous years and halfbacks prior to Aaron Smith’s emergence in black. Not settled yet

Christies defensive game is why he get picked for the big games. Defence wins trophys.
I was surprised though at just how much slower his passing was compared to both Ratima and Hotham which I think was a very significant reason why the 'finishers' had such a late game impact. The backs had more time and your pods can run onto the ball because you know its coming rather than waiting and then starting your run. (are getting it passed to where you are standing not in front of you).

Yep.
I think our strength is still ball handling and speed.

I know right, the other halfbacks can't tackle to save themselves!!!

Fuck me, have you been watching him for the last few years?
