Between Ardie and Barrett, yikes. Not exactly the two sharpest knives in the drawer.
Captain is a concern - as much as I hate to say it with the ambuguity in the game these days the captain has to be someone that can get in the ear of the ref and influence them.
Savea is just extremely passive with the ref and Barret would probably just annoy them.
How good is Papps with his coms to the ref?
He's fine, but not as good as Patrick.
It would be tempting to me to make one of Taylor or Patrick captain for one year as an interim captain.
Loose forward is going to be very contested, and IMO we want to be able to try Hoskins at 8. Ardie's not been a seven for a long time now too.

I think Paps is a dark horse here for captain.
He’s a good age, has experience in the role at Super level, and is probably the right 7 to allow Ardie to be Ardie at 8.
I think the talk of Blackadder to Japan could be a clue that the word is out that Paps has the jersey sewn up.
I think he is a future AB captain. It may not be this year but I think it’s coming.
-
i think we need to accept that Stretched Blackadder is never going to be fit

Probably won't happen because he might not be guaranteed starter who can fire for 80 minutes, but making Patty T AB captain might light a fire under him to lift his game at international level. Our lock situation is looking precarious. The way forward might be to try to get something more out of existing options.
As it is, I think Scott Barrett will captain the side.

Admittedly I haven't watched much Super, but would Proctor be a better option than ALB on the bench?
Proctor has been the form 13 of Super Rugby. He's been excellent. He does the ability to play 12 - right now ALB has runs on the board but if Proctor can transfer his Super form to test level then he will give Razor something to really think about.
Proctor doesn't play 12 much. But he was outstanding in his one start at super rugby level during 2023. Close to his best game ever

I'd be very surprised if they pick 4 wings in a 32 man squad
the World Cup was only like 8 months ago
Yeah, but they picked 5 wings in a 33 man squad. What's your point?
I reckon picking the injured Narawa and replacing him later (with Blackadder) was a total (and very smart) ploy.
To labour the point....
Narawa and Clarke collectively (all Clarke) played one game against a minnow and 20 minutes off the bench vs another minnow. In a comp. where there are restrictions around replacing players. For our first three tests this year we can bring whomever we want into our squad if someone gets injured.
They won't pick 4 wings - but, you know this!

@Chris-B probably looking for versatility, hello McNicholl, Springer and Reece.
Sevu's got a good chance of making it. I don't think the others...shall.
With Aumua and Havili able to cover the rest of the backline outside 9, they're a shoo-in.

McNicholl ineligible?

Last capped for Wales in 2022 so yes he’s ineligible. Wouldn’t be considered to get a call up at 33 years old anyway, especially as an outside back.

In fairness he’s looking better as a Crusader than he did as a Scarlet

Ok I didn't think I'd need to clarify, but there was absolutely zero seriousness in my post.

Most likely Scooter. Has the mana and the time to grow as captain.
If the likes of Pat T and/or Cane are selected, there'd be enough experience around him to call on.

Because of Robertson?
I don't think Scott has even close to the charisma needed right now. He comes across as a bit boring. At a time when NZR maybe needs someone who offers a bit more.
And maybe another Crusader is becoming a bit much.
