I am not sure where I stand on the rule. It wasn't the chiefs fault they had two blokes injured. Unless we are punishing them for not having more props on the bench who can play both sides.
-

Beat them in Christchurch in Week 1 and them have that game up in Fiji in July I think.
-

That's the thing, though. I'm pretty sure Fisihoii has played both sides before.

South Africa have not put a prop on before when they had a player who was selected as a tighthead but played half the SupeRugby season at loosehead.
-

In ITM Cup last year Northland took golden oldies option despite having a hooker on the bench who has played TH for us when our TH went down injured...the fact that naki were destroying our scrum had nothing to do with it, nothing at all!

Ahh, a new law created... because Taniwha. -

If a prop has played on the other side in first class rugby in say 5 matches as a starter and 10 matches if he's come on as a replacement then they should be considered suitably qualified.

This nomination bullshit is stupid. The official who controls this should have the stats in front of him before the game and then everyone will know before the game what is what.
-
Geez Marshall, you do come off a bit of a dick when you spend half the game moaning. Leitch didn't pick and go off the scrum at the end as you aren't allowed to from uncontested scrums. Which any halfback would know right?

Really liking the look of Seu and Fatialofa.

Perenara makes some really glaring fuck ups in every game eh. Dropped ball at the end, shitty kicks on breaks from turnover ball. What's happened there, he's really gone backwards and I'd be very nervous seeing him in black.

Woodward, you poor sod. But shit I laughed. -

Why is the first time we've seen this though? As Nepia pointed out, the same thing happened earlier in the season and it was still 15v15. It does kinda makes sense (though seems pretty rough) but this is the first time I've ever seen it.

Anyway, phew. Chiefs dominated the first 20-25 minutes of the second half but gave the momentum back to the Canes near the end and did well to hold them off. Great game, happy with the win.

A few thoughts:

I was scared the defence would be shit against a good attack, especially with Ngatai out, but they did really well. Hope Ngatai's injury is just a niggle and he's back next week though.

For what must be the 100th time, Rhys Marshall can fuck off, he's been given so many chances and he still can't throw to save his life. Elliot to start, Harris on the bench.

Thought Cane comfortably won the 7s battle. He was everywhere, leading from the front.

10s battle was a bit of a coin toss, Barrett the better runner but doesn't really do much with his backline if he doesn't break the line and fuck his kicking is atrocious (both territorial and place). Cruden ran a much better backline and had much better territorial kicking. To me that means they stay in their old spots, Cruden starting and Barrett as the impact 10/15 off the bench.

9s battle was hard to say, TJP has plenty of talent but his pass sucks and he has no brains. Weber has better decision making but his pass isn't really accurate either and he struggles in contested rucks. TKB didn't get much time but I kinda thought he was the best by default. Should start next week I reckon.
-
Yeah I agree cane was way more prominent where it matters than Savea. Cane is a tackle machine.

Yeah that's weird that they only decided to enforce that law now. Same issue happened against SA last year but they were allowed 15.

just shows what a good ref Joubert is
-
Great game but the scrum thing made it a bit of an anticlimax.
Not sure i agree that Cruden won the 10 battle. Barrett was pretty sharp kicking aside (which was costly) Cruden didn't do much of note. Of course that doesnt change anything in the AB talks.

The golden oldies scrums probably cost the canes the game in the end. They were getting on a roll and i wouldnt have been surprised if they got a penalty infront of the sticks from that first golden oldies one. Can't blame that though. Woodward just needed to catch the ball and it was done.

Tamanivalu played the best game i have seen from him and D mac was good again. Im thinking a 14.smith 15. Barrett and Dmac supersub is looking good for the ABs while NMS is out.

Cane and Savea were both good. However super rugby isn't going to change the ABs ranking unless one's form falls off a cliff. -

Whew! A helter skelter game, that the Chiefs were lucky to win. Really good defence at the end there, especially considering they were playing with 14.

Beauden, mate, I suggest you find some new kicking boots. And TJP should not be anywhere near an AB jersey.
-

Another good game.

Just like at the end of the Highlanders game, Woodward shows that he's not clutch.

It wasn't the easiest pass to catch though. Canes lost a game that should have been an easy win

Barrett is quality but needs to have the kicking taken off him. His touch finding and goal kicking is not good enough but otherwise he's high quality
-

Entertaining but weird game. Barrett was excellent goal kicking aside. Thought Cruden was bloody quiet and Julian Savea doesnt look like an AB.

Agree. Cruden looked sluggish even before the head knock.

J. Savea did nothing other than kill any momentum in attack. Very poor defensive effort also.

Not a huge fan of the Canes attack on phase play.
