"I know thereās a lot of young kids or young players watched the game and itās not a good example"
zzzzz
To be fair, he was talking about HIS actions and not Coles when he said this.

@Daffy-Jaffy said in All Blacks v Argentina II:
āYeah that was not something Iām not proud about, to be honest,ā Matera admitted. āBecause I know thereās a lot of young kids or young players watched the game and itās not a good example.
The old double negative, so heās proud of it, right?

Stop picking on him

This is just weird. I'm sure Matera has been subjected to worse sledging on the field than "you don't belong here". Wussy Cantabs.
Didn't he get stood down for some racist comments? Either way I'm not for Coles carrying on like that. I would rather he focus on his actions then his words. I know sledging is part of it but Im not a fan.

Racist comment. Can't remember this.
Coles isn't a dirty player but likes to verbally wind players up. I don't mind this TBH. As long as it doesn't go into no-go areas. Like a racist comment. But dont belong here seems fine to me

And thatās the problem when itās talked about it in an interview and you donāt shut it down.
He obviously thought that was his chance to āapologiseā but if youāre not giving all the details people who just read the transcript of reports of the interview are left scratching their heads.
But Iām not that keen on tell alls as well because then Coles would have to come out and issue an apology (no matter what he said) too and then that takes on a life of its own.

āIām one of the guys that says āthe things that happens on the field stays on the field, thatās how it has to be always."
Clearly this is not true. The next word was 'But'
"he just continued picking on me"
"it really hurt me"
"He said things that Iām sensitive about"
"I just couldnāt understand why he kept picking on me"
It's almost like Coles singled out an emotional player and tried to get him to lose focus on the game.
I'm shocked. Nothing like this ever happens in top level sports.
Won't someone think of the children?? Oh Pablo pulled out that bullshit too
"I know thereās a lot of young kids or young players watched the game and itās not a good example"
zzzzz
Smart from Coles, targetted what appears to be a mentally weak player.
Nothing the opposition says should stop you thinking about the game. Fitzy would be proud.

I enjoyed this article. On Coles sprays

Not sure what Dan Carter has to do with any of this

Enjoyed this:
Both Coles and Retallick were also involved in a spat with England prop Kyle Sinckler during a test at Twickenham in 2018, after the Englishman called All Blacks lock Retallick āthe ugliest guy in the worldā.
āI was like, āShut upā, and then he dropped the ball five metres out and me and Guzzler were like, āYeah, you useless bastardā,ā Coles said on the What a Lad podcast.
Itās not just players Coles has mouthed off at ā just ask former Wallabies assistant coach Nathan Grey, who Coles said called him a ācheap s...ā from the sideline after he believed the hooker put a late hit on an Australian player.
No surprises, then, that Coles couldnāt resist firing a shot at the defence coach when the All Blacks scored in Wellington soon after.
āSo Iāve gone back at him, weāve scored, and Iām like, āgood to see your defence is bloody workingā. So, Iāve had it all ā players, coaches, managers.ā

Definitely ironic considering the doctor slapped Sincklers mother when he was born.
Probably one for the GOM thread but whatās with Coles talking like a teenage girl ? Heās like āthisā and then he said like āthatā, and I was like āthisā

If it gets a player to not focus on his game, then it will always be effective. The problem for Matera is everyone now knows you can get under his skin.

But did it affect him thinking about the game, during the game? All it seemed to impact was the post game handshakeā¦
