On the Ardie/Jordan pace debate, I actually thought Jordan slowed up as Ardie was always going to get to the ball/player first.
You and your "facts" ruining a good indignation.
Good to know what neps "thought" is fact. Kudos @Nepia !
Fair enough.
I'll rephrase as "you and your rationality" ...
I guess I'm probably not as rational as Jordan. Had never thought to slow up when I was the fastest in the team in case someone behind me was gonna get there first š
Possibly he thought Ardie was a better tackler?
And.or he was hoping to scoop up any loose ball once Ardie secured the tackle... -

Matera on that Dane Coles incident -
Speaking on the What A Lad podcast, Matera admitted he was not proud of his actions towards Coles as he failed to set a good example for children watching the game.
āYeah that was not something Iām not proud about, to be honest,ā Matera admitted. āBecause I know thereās a lot of young kids or young players watched the game and itās not a good example.
āIām one of the guys that says āthe things that happens on the field stays on the field, thatās how it has to be always.
āBut that day was a bit different to be honest, that day was a bit different.
āI think he came in when there was like ten minutes left and he just continued picking on me, in every ruck, in every scrum, saying something.
āTo be honest, it really hurt me, some strong things, I donāt want to repeat it but I couldnāt understand why, because they were winning by 40 points, he just came on, I didnāt understand why he was with that attitude.
āI know heās obviously a great player but I know heās a great guy as well because some of his teammates spoke to me after the game and came and say āoh heās a good guyā I said āIām sure heās a good guy, Iām sureā I just couldnāt understand why he kept picking on me.ā
Matera spent last season with Crusaders in their Super Rugby Pacific winning season, playing a big role for Scott Robertsonās men. However, the Argentine revealed that Coles told him he does not belong here, which Matera found disrespectful.āHe said things that Iām sensitive about, like me being in New Zealand, āyou donāt belong hereā and I was like if you knew how much effort for me and my family to be able to come to New Zealand you wouldnāt be saying these things.
āBut thatās it, it wonāt happen again even though I didnāt want to give the time to him because I can take the disrespectfulā¦ I shouldnāt have done it because the game is bigger than any player.ā

Unsure what to make of this. But I wish he had kept quiet after "stay's on the field, thatās how it has to be always". And just left it at that. It was interesting at the time but now it's stirring it all up again.
But Coles should know better by now. But at least he didn't damage his body with say a concussion career ending high head shot And Matera shouldn't let nonsense talk by Coles get to him so much.
I kind of on the fence with this. Read this article but wish Matera didn't come across as such a sensitive soul. And Coles as an insensitive whatever

āIām one of the guys that says āthe things that happens on the field stays on the field, thatās how it has to be always."
Clearly this is not true. The next word was 'But'
"he just continued picking on me"
"it really hurt me"
"He said things that Iām sensitive about"
"I just couldnāt understand why he kept picking on me"
It's almost like Coles singled out an emotional player and tried to get him to lose focus on the game.
I'm shocked. Nothing like this ever happens in top level sports.
Won't someone think of the children?? Oh Pablo pulled out that bullshit too
"I know thereās a lot of young kids or young players watched the game and itās not a good example"
zzzzz

I wonder if he sounded a bit precious because English isn't his first language? Maybe he wasn't able to express things the way he intended?

Ah yes, the old "foreigners taking our jobs" schtick. Classic.

To be fair, he was talking about HIS actions and not Coles when he said this.

The old double negative, so heās proud of it, right?

Stop picking on him

This is just weird. I'm sure Matera has been subjected to worse sledging on the field than "you don't belong here". Wussy Cantabs.
Didn't he get stood down for some racist comments? Either way I'm not for Coles carrying on like that. I would rather he focus on his actions then his words. I know sledging is part of it but Im not a fan.

Racist comment. Can't remember this.
Coles isn't a dirty player but likes to verbally wind players up. I don't mind this TBH. As long as it doesn't go into no-go areas. Like a racist comment. But dont belong here seems fine to me

And thatās the problem when itās talked about it in an interview and you donāt shut it down.
He obviously thought that was his chance to āapologiseā but if youāre not giving all the details people who just read the transcript of reports of the interview are left scratching their heads.
But Iām not that keen on tell alls as well because then Coles would have to come out and issue an apology (no matter what he said) too and then that takes on a life of its own.

Smart from Coles, targetted what appears to be a mentally weak player.
Nothing the opposition says should stop you thinking about the game. Fitzy would be proud.

I enjoyed this article. On Coles sprays
