Let's face it a pretty good percentage of posters on rugby orus wouldn't read books as there is often more then 2 paragraphs involved and that would stretch some's ability to concetrate
i absolutely adore how many errors and typos are in this one sentence aimed at saying how stupid other people are. It's delicious
You really need to stop being so sensitive, I was in no way saying anyone is stupid, merely pointing out the difference in so called journalism. The writers like Terry McLean etc wrote about tours while actually on the tours with ABs or whoever, where as now with internet anyone can post online and seemingly get their opinions etc of whatever is latest internet scource, they don't seem to actually travel with or talk to teams, or indeed even watch games apart from on tv in many cases.. Not a dig at anyone , merely pointing out differences of how info gets passed on.
Sorry I can't be buggered going through to make sure everything is up to your high standards,.I know Grandpa, everything was better in the good old days, now let's get you back to bed

To sum up, I think everyone agrees that Foster should go and that he's very fat. The disagreement is about how bad this mess is and how to fix it. Like losing weight, I hope fixing the ABs won't be as hard or impossible as it's made out to be. Ultimately what's required is an awareness of the problem and a willingness to make the necessary changes.

God I didn't know we had so many sensitive souls on here, never once said it was better or worse just different. Reporters travelled with and talked to players a lot more. They could well of been filling us up with crap to, just there was more to the crap they told us maybe.

Matfield felt the Springboks had an advantage in this key defensive area that they needed to maximise to set up attacking options in the opening Rugby Championship clash at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday. “The New Zealand defence has been one of the slowest in terms of coming off the line. That is what gave the Ireland attack a lot of opportunity over the course of that series,” he said. “If South Africa was playing against Ireland, for example, they would come off the line a lot quicker to shut down the options. Ireland would probably struggle to get more than one or two passes away. As a result, Ireland would probably be forced to kick a lot more. “New Zealand don’t have the best defence at the moment. The Boks can run at them – and I’m not talking about running from deep within our own half. If we get into their half, we can build through our forwards, and we can come round the corner. Once we set the platform, we can play a few options. That is how you can build momentum against them.”

Scott McLeod, ignoring the effectiveness rush defence since 2017
EDIT: crazy since the Canes had won the SR the year before on awesome rush defence. No tries conceeded in the finals, that will never be equalled

@Machpants our d is a huge issue, yet for all the talk of assistants under pressure, McLeods name never came up.
I'm not sure we have the discipline right now to run an effective rush defence, that said, there is something very wrong with whatever structure we are trying to run at moment too, passive and ineffective.
Something must change, an aggressive defence will create attack opportunities.

Our game plan really requires more running. Running into the ball on attack and into the opposition's faces in defence, both attack and defence are too static

No, AB sides's were often pretty shit back then.
Motorcycles of that era, on the other hand, were way more exciting to ride than today's computer-assisted machines...

But still managed to beat most sides on a regular basis. My heart bleeds for you poor kiwis back in the day

We used to lose to Irish club sides back then. Heck, we even lost to England at home. Don't blame us Kiwi's for having high standards...

so how did you guys discuss that back then to get that consensus, send one another letters? 😉 🎣
We used to wait for Terry McLean's new book to come out.
But seriously, in many ways I think there was better analysis in the media at that time than now. Much less, but better quality overall.
Yep and books and articles were written in a manner that didn't appear to be only to get reaction. Let's face it a pretty good percentage of posters on rugby orus wouldn't read books as there is often more then 2 paragraphs involved and that would stretch some's ability to concetrate, and most were written by people who actually attended games and spoke to playerscoaches/supporters etc.
What is an orus? A walrus with a thick moustache and a speech impediment?

@nostrildamus I only know of Oris, which was my brother's friend Clint's nickname.
