I'm slightly surprised that they haven't gone with Cane at 6 and Papalii at 7, but my brain is probably too old school on that one.

They could end up playing more left and right (particularly from scrums) than openside/blindside.

Papalii is bigger and taller than O’Mahony.

How the hell do you play someone who came off for an HIA?

Ireland are not covering themselves in head-injury glory on this tour.

Only 3 changes - wing (Hansen), reserve hooker (Herring) and reserve prop (Bealham)

It seems a bit confusing but from my understanding they have 3 HIA tests, the first one in the changing rooms which he apears to have failed. But on subsequent tests 2 and 3 he passed so is deemed a non-concussion? And therefore, can play. I think most teams give players a stand down regardless but that is what I picked up from the interview with Farrell.

I might be a bit dumb but I cannot quite see the concern regarding Dalton at 6.
He ís 6' 4" and weighs 113 kg so not a lightweight.
    Kaino was 6' 5"and weighed 110 kg
    Collins was 6' 3"and weighed 112 kg
Jerry and Jerome were our best two blindsides for many a moon and I know it is how you use your physical attributes in a game as we have seen way too many gifted athletes who disappoint but I reckon Dalton is going to be good.

There's no way peak Jerome Kaino was 110kg. We picked him as a lock - you can't have a guy who weighs the same as a decent sized openside flanker locking an AB scrum. As it turned out, you can't even have Jerome. 🙂

As above the Jerry, Rodney Richie trio lacked some height and throughout that era our lineout was a bit vulnerable. .

I’m expecting Ireland to target our line out. Are Dalton & Ardie genuine options at this level??

think the loosies later in the year will be Cane, Savea plus Dalton/Akira. Who starts and who is on the bench out of the Blues loosies will change depending on tactics/opposition

Add in PGS & Hoskins and the likes of Callum Grace & Jacobson in the wings and we seem to be blessed at 6/7/8 at the moment.

I'm not sure about Dalton, as he's not played ABs often. But Ardie had been successfully used in many tests, even against top opposition.

Happy with that team and the continuity. Only surprise for me is Leicester starting over Will Jordan - not that LF didn't have a good game, but Jordan is something else as a player. As someone mentioned, lineouts will be key without SW and Taylor's throwing will be critical - did well last week.

Fakatava will be different threat coming on later in the game particularly if Ireland are tiring. Ditto Jordan.

Wonder if we'll see some different tactics this week, esp. at the start where Ireland will want to put down a marker, to get them on the back foot or frustrate them.

    Blackadder Jr. as well.

I reckon we're loaded with 7s and loaded with bench utilities and guys who are great rugby players.

We're a bit light on monsters like Jerome Kaino and Big Pieter-Steph.

Yeah, I doubt there will be new caps in the loosies until after the RWC

The next year or so will be getting Tests into who they already have and testing different cover options

I think they'll have in their minds that they want to take PGS to the rwc but not give other teams too much footage to analyse. If his best SR from could be brought to test rugby he could be a great point of difference.
