Super Rugby 2023

Might be one less after tonight. Bit worried about Grace with that shoulder.
However, the Chiefs have a few back-up 6s as well.

I have to say I did not expect the rule changes to make such a big difference to the tempo, it goes to show how teams really did slow down the game on purpose with all the huddles, fake injuries, props doing makeup etc.
I love this new product, its just much better to watch and these changes can only benefit the fit teams and you can't help but think the AB's would love these rules to come into the test arena. I hope the other refs can watch BOK as that should be the template for sure.

And one of takeaways I got from the speeding up of lineouts in particular is I think we find them being simplfied a bit, no huddles, and I thought more the Hookers haven't got a long to set themselves? Samisoni missed a couple of throws by a fair bit where I got impression he was still getting breath.
Very good for game I thought. -

Very good for game I thought.Yes, very hard on the hookers, those already with wobbly throwing will be badly exposed as they don't have time to compose themselves and have a breather, I feel sorry for them but makes lineouts more interesting for sure.

Agree, things have noticeably sped up. So these new rules are not yet approved for tests? Hopefully we are not shooting ourselves in the foot for the World Cup with our fatties having to be not so fat to keep up in Super Rugby and then struggling against the big boppers in test footy.

Odds on Reds coaching staff to see out the season?

@Stargazer Have there been some similar interpretations during the 6N? Ball in play time was very high in the Ireland/France game.
Nope they're just playing that way, possession based games.
-
@Machpants they are playing with the rules to reduce time wasting though arent they?

Only the kick clocks, water boys, not to the same extent as SR. But last year's matches had on average 5 or 6 minutes more in play than RC, sadly it's the SH who are the turgid teams now
-
@Machpants and the irony is, it was still the NH teams and SA slowing shit down in the internationals last year.

But not when they play each other, bizarre

I found the Oz games far less 'sped up' that the NZ ones.
We had refs calling out 30 seconds for a scrum set only after the packs had fucked around getting assembled.I like the interpretation of 'ball out' at breakdowns though. Saw a number of steals from the back if the halfback was mucking around.

Angus Gardner stopping the canes reds game for several minutes so a Reds player could change his boots on the field was ridiculous

Does anyone want to post a top NZ eligible team of R1. I will start by nominating DMac, Ratallick and Stevenson for the Chiefs
But too tired now to watch games too closely
Are Ian Foster in disguise? Failing that you have the makings of a referee with that sort of eyesight difficulty!

I wonder if YC cards are going to be more costly with the quicker game? When cards first came in you were likely to concede ~14 points. However in recent years the defending teams have managed cards a lot better
Take the Crusaders v Chiefs match, the score was 14-10 to the Chiefs when Blackadder got carded (terrible & risky technique). There were definitely 2 tries while he was off, possibly the Ratima try too? Either way just over 10mins later the score was 31-10
It'll be interesting to keep an eye on. I think it's going to be harder to manage the 10mins because you have less ability to slow things down
