Or do you try to talk around Leroy Carter from his sevens deal? That would be my first go to
Not a bad call, is he a halfback?
-
@Canes4life Didn't you watch NPC? He was the BOP halfback.

Wasn't he playing on the wing? I know Carter played for the Canes in pre-season last year but just couldn't remember what position.
-
@Canes4life Yeah, you're right. He played on the wing in the finals where his sevens experience was very useful. He was only available after sevens had finished so he only played one regular season game. At halfback.

I’d certainly prefer him over Henry.

@TheMojoman not sure if this has already been posted but he's turned up at Souths Logan Magpies! Probably on a train and trial deal with either the Broncos, Titans or Dolphins ?

@Higgins Not many! What's left is probably NPC third-stringers and recent school leavers from provincial academy squads, some of whom will appear in the Super Rugby U20 comp!
Anyone know who's in the Canes WTG? I'm assuming guys like Siale Lauaki, Harry Godfrey, Raymond Tuputupu who performed well for the Hurricanes Under 20s.
Answering this here.
I haven't seen any names. I guess we'll have to go through the photos of preseason again to find out, because the Canes don't tend to post the WTG.
I think we can expect players from the Hurricanes area that were in the NZU19s and NZ U20s, and then a few NPC players who haven't left New Zealand.
So, in addition to the names you mention, Cooper Flanders, Jordi Viljoen and Epeli Waqaicece. Maybe PJ Sheck and Kianu Kereru-Symes (if he doesn't go to the MLR as rumoured). Maybe a few provincial academy players, and old-timers who are at the end of their career..

The only other name I can think of is Sione Halalilo who impressed with his couple cameos for the Lions this year. (Also an under 20 member).

Peter UJ still with his arm in a sling. From his brother's instagram.
Yeah, he will be out for a large portion of the Hurricanes campaign I believe.

Shame.
Although fortunately we have Higgins now (and I'm keen to see more of him at the next level up as he was first rate during the NPC) to step in when required. I guess the other option is Proctor to 2nd 5 when Barrett isn't available. But I would like to see either Higgins and Proctor (it's a combination that clicked including in the final) or Higgins and Sullivan in the few games when Barrett is rested.

I think the Canes shouldn't blur the lines here, they should keep Jordie at 12 with Higgins as back-up (he's already good enough IMO), and Proctor/Sullivan can share the duties at 13.
I wouldn't mind seeing that Higgins / Sullivan combo at some point.

Im sure Barrett will be rested for some games though. Esp in a RWC year
Edit. Ok see what you mean. No Proctor at 2nd 5. Agree but it is one option

Yep and wouldn't surprise me too much if Jordie get a game or 2 at 15, just to keep hand in. But certainly looking a decent backline isn't it.
And of course now thet test stuff mor or less done we get to turn minds to super now don't we? Might even plan to sneak a trip down to Levin fir the Canes/Saders preseason game as yet. -

It's the potential with the forwards with a new scrum coach that excites me. It might disappear after game 1 but I hope not

Siale Lauaki
He was at TH when Wellington destroyed the Canterbury scrum. Thats all the know about him but based on this he might be another quality player that the Canes need to get in the system and sign him up in 2023 (for 2024). Depending on how he goes in next years NPC of course.
Sheck is another one that's still young (22) and impressed in the NPC. Especially in the final when he became a starter in the last minute
