    for full transparency

    Cullen
    Wilson
    Bunce
    Horan
    Lomu
    Carter
    VdVH
    Zinny
    Richie
    J Smith
    Matfield
    Johnson
    Brown
    Fitzy
    Os dR

Challenge would be a team willing to play that one!

First alternatives that spring to mind off the top of my head with no deep thought. All open to debate.

1 and 11 don't leap out at me - need to have a think.

Would give them a go though (until the two man advantage kicked in)

    Blanco
    Kirwan
    O'Driscoll
    Nonu
    ?
    Wilkinson
    Smith A
    Read
    Kaino
    Smith G
    Eales
    Jones AW
    Furlong
    Wood
    ?

(Lack of Jaaps though 🫤 )

A best ever bench players would be interesting.

Not just the next best players but players who delivered off of the bench.

Obviously this would be limited to the last 25 years or so.

From NZ the likes of Beauden, Faumuina, Weepu come to mind.

Sir Ian McGeechan picks all-time XV - includes three England legends - Ruck

That isn't a bad list and I really like the way he considered loosie and centre combos.
Carter cancels Johnny out (have one or the other but I'd pick Carter as well), I wonder if Eales would be that rugged for the modern game, and I wonder if a French or Argentinian prop might get a look in. But not a horrible selection anywhere IMO.

Kees Meeuws was one of the original bench impact players!

Right, Captains: In no particular order and excluding anyone before the late '70;s

Graham Mourie, Fitzy, Ritchie, David Kirk.

Ritchie & Mourie for me. Both took teams which were in a bad place and brought to the very top,

Took over a winning team and did well. Just think Mourie & Ritche proved they could lead thru adversity as well as thru the good times.
