Hurricanes v Reds

Who was the number 20 who came on to the side of the scrums for the Hurricanes? Looked a solid lad.
-
@Crazy-Horse I think that was Caleb Delany
-
@Crazy-Horse TK Howden was listed at 20 on the team sheet. He played well for Manawatu in the NPC, and was in the NZ U20 squad.

@Tim I would be very happy for them to keep this midfield pairing going, they complement each other very well. Almost Nonu/Smith type.
PUJ runs hard and straight, it helped free up space for Sullivan
He still needs to work on his tackling a bit - he missed 4 according to ESPN.
I agree though, that a PUJ/Sullivan midfield looks the business.
I bet they’ve lost PUJ though.

@Frank You can have all the ceiling in the world but unless you perform you shouldn't be in the conversation. So many work-ons for Clarke, positioning, taking the high balls, kicking, putting people in space,.... No doubt he has some awesome strengths but at test level will he be a liability or an asset?
Odd post, nearly every wing in the frame has work ons. Bridge can't beat a man one on one, Reece's defence can disappear week to week. And as already noted he's been an asset at test level. Did you sleep through 2020?

@Machpants lol this is a pretty funny discussion. Of course you would centre most of your game plan around your two best players.
I.e Carter and McCaw for the Crusaders in the past, Smith and Smith for the Highlanders in years gone by. This ain’t new.
Ardie’s been dominant all year so the Canes would be stupid not to get the ball into his hands.
It’s not like other players didn’t contribute though, the likes of TK Howden had a storming game, PUJ & Sullivan were solid in the midfield, Perenara played the best game he has in a while.
I think you have simplified it somewhat. Jordie and Ardie are getting their hands on the ball far more than I have seen from two players that are not wearing a 9 or 10 on their backs. It’s a good thing because they are quality but it does put a lot of pressure on them.
As for the Saders, McCaw we didn’t rely on so much, he was just very good and did what he did. DC yes, but he is running the cutter so you’d expect plenty of involvement. I would say we had periods when we “relied on” the likes of Casey Laulala and Nadolo to get us front foot ball so ran plenty of play through them.

Finally got to fully watch the game, admittedly after Anzac morning refreshments. My points
- Both eights were by far the best players on the field. Canes will totally lose against any decent team without Ardie, and Wilson has improved and was nowhere near a card.
- Reds not fit enough, in fact that seems all the Ozzie teams
- Gibson really blew desperately needed bonus point try, WTF was he passing to?
- TJ an awesome SR player, but didn't need to be in black again.
- McReight Looks like peak fetcher McCaw circa 2010. Sadly the rules have been clarified since then, and he was a liability with not releasing.
-
I feel like the Canes need one or two more leaders in their 15 to help take them from a good team to serious title contenders. They’ve shown glimpses of being a very good team but have often switched off in matches this year which has been costly.
Getting Dane Coles back into this side will be massive. Not only will our line-out improve but he probably picks this team up as much as Ardie does in the way he plays.
The ceiling for this side is fairly large due to a large proportion of the side being in their early 20s, so the fact we are already winning some big games is promising, even when it’s off the back of the likes of Ardie and Jordie at the moment.

@Canes4life hopefully the boys stay together until we can get shot of Holland

With Clarke, I want to see the hype, I really do......
I want to believe you, I really do......
However your judgment of wing play seems a bit off
@Old-Samurai-Jack said in AB left wing:
The comments on here about Bridge are ridiculous. He has scored tries for the ABs that young fellas like Clarke (a fern favourite) could only dream of at this stage.
@Old-Samurai-Jack said in All Blacks vs Fiji 2:
I am in the pro-Bridge camp. You all create your own reality through cognitive dissonance. Offers a dam sight more than fern favourite Clarke would if he was in the ABs in his present form.
@Old-Samurai-Jack said in All Blacks vs Pumas I:
Bridge played OK. He bumped off a couple of players, was fairly physical....if his last name was Clarke the Fern would be ecstatic about his performance.
@Old-Samurai-Jack said in All Blacks vs Pumas I:
Are you taking the piss? Bridge has a far better nose for the scoreline than Clarke.

Canes were fortunate that Reds completely imploded in 2nd half, not a good sign for the supposed top side in the AUS conference.
Canes achilles heel is 10. Morgan was actually OK without the control you'd hope. I'm surprised they didn't keep Jordie outside him. PUJ has been an AB but I wouldn't say he's an experienced hand. Who is the consistent 10 going forward? Is it Garden-Bachop, Love or Morgan? We saw how a lack of a consistently solid/good 10 hurt the Blues over the years.
-
@TheMojoman I hope we stay with the PUJ Sullivan 12,13 in terms of 10s I’d rather they rotate between Love and Morgan.
