Should have dropped McCaw too with all those injuries he used to get. And Papalii? appendicitis! Who the fuck gets that these days? Get rid of him.
Different situation. No-one was challenging McCaw for his AB slot. If Sam's fitness and its impact on the AB captaincy hasn't crossed management's mind, then they are even worse than their detractors claim
Marty Holah was neck and neck with him early on as I recall, through to about 04 or so
I think that cow bell noise was coming from Waikato and nowhere else
Mate, I'm from Auckland! I have no love for Waikato ... but he was a hell of a player

Highlander 2
Canes 3
Chiefs 9
Crusaders 10
Blues 12I made a mistake below. Blues have 12 ABs (not 11) 6 forwards and 6 backs
I hope Fozzie takes into account that all those Blues boys aren't going to have Leon's big brain guiding them in the All Blacks.
Significant risk they'll revert to type and play like the Tin Man from the Wizard of Oz out there!

No we won't, not for a few months yet

@Machpants am sure they'll still remember what they have learnt from him at the Blues and manage to retain it without needing to re-learn it when he joins the ABs

Papallii has never had the pace to be a link player at 7
🤣
Are you on drugs ? ...do you even realize a 7 should be a fetcher, an openside has to have the pace to link up with the backs, especially with the speed the ABs play, that isn't Papalii, he's too slow for the position & weighs about 115kg, which is why he's better suited to 6 or 8.
Hahaha, good one Murray Dickhead.... yeah I've never played rugby and I'm on an array of drugs - yet my insight into rugby, players and coaching is still light years beyond your basic, clichéd dross. That must be embarrassing.
Papalii is quicker than Cane, sharpen up.

He's 5cm taller than McCaw was and 5 kg heavier. Sounds about right for a good 7 to me.
As for speed, the best skill of a 7 is smart running lines and foresight. DP is very good at taking the shortest route to a breakdown or link that hasn't happened yet. Again a skill the great one had.
Yep One of Ritchies great strengths running the best lines to support the ball carrier, hit the ruck or make the tackle,He had great vision for a 7.As he said once in an interview its all about getting to the target as quick as he could using the right lines and angles not really pace but smarts.
Never gets old. Watch that young fella in 7
Two plays there that perfectly encapsulate each player's international career - McCaw with the fantastic cover defence, tackle and steal, and Mauger patting Mortlock on the back as he makes his line break.

Cully has some decent points in this one

That bit is probably right to be fair

Hard to disagree with this. Add Lomax to the list.
I wouldn’t have Perenara or Robinson in the unlucky camp.
The writers attempt to link Perenara’s dropping to last years tests misses the point that his form has not been great for 2 years and I don’t think his Super performances this year showed any sign of it returning to his peak of 3-4 years ago.
As for Robinson, in my opinion it’s just a case of him being behind Scott Barrett and Vaa’i.
But what about as a blindside?

Foster said they're keen to use Papalii on the blindside, I bet that was Schmidt's idea, not his... Papallii has never had the pace to be a link player at 7, which is a pretty big factor in the ABs playing a fast paced game.
Well as Foster talked about it last year, I not sure where you got that idea from.
For starters Fosters has stuff all insight & he played Papalii at 7 last year, so hardly surprising what I said.
Struggling with your logic

No. There are better starting and bench options with Akira and then Papali’i or Vaa’i and Scott Barrett doing the lock/6 thing.

I think Cully reads the fern and may have finally figured out that the analysis here is not always awful, there are some correct conclusions, and the shit talk here is laced with nonzero chance of providing actual insight.
The fact that we've had dad's army up front has been the key theme of basically every discussion here since 2019. When you look at the ages of those players, it is worrying.
It really makes you wonder why they have selected Karl, there is no way that he is the winning and losing of the test series, and it's three more tests when they can't look at Hodgman or even Williams.

It probably signifies that they don't trust Bower, as they shouldn't.
But they are the dumb shits who invested so much time in him. I'm down on him but I truly hope he plays well, starting from the AB tests (I hope he has a shitter this week).

@Kirwan said in All Blacks 2022:
@gt12 I’m more worried about lock. Whitelock and BBBR are creaking, Scott Barrett is incredibly dumb at times and Vaai is very green.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, we are way too close to being Wales in Black jerseys asking AWJ to round the track once last time.
It got them to a WC (edit: semi) final, so maybe that's Fozzie's plan.
