He's a bit more experienced than your average newbie, so they won't be concerned about him being overawed.
Personally, I'd pick Jack Goodhue at 12, but he's really been selected as a centre so maybe they'll ask him to specialize..
RTS at 12 with Jack on the bench wouldn't be bad.
RTS is a big risk against the Irish midfield. Might come off, might wreck his career. Don't think the coaches will throw him in the deep end

@Chris-B said in All Blacks 2022:
If they do start Beaudy, I reckon RTS is almost as good a chance of starting as any of the other three midfielders for that combinations reason. If he has a good game this coming weekend, that will help.
He's a bit more experienced than your average newbie, so they won't be concerned about him being overawed.Good point and.......1st test is at Eden Park.
-
@Frank he doesnt look like he carries much fat, so I reckon he could put on 5 easily without compromising much to his game
That said, I think he will end up as one of those unlucky guys that just never quite makes it, without a doubt good enough, just in such a competitive position and unlucky timing (think if he hadnt been injured in 2020? he'd have made it)

Was Papalii nursing the appendix area as he leaned forward to congratulate him?
-
@Crucial said in All Blacks 2022:
Should have dropped McCaw too with all those injuries he used to get. And Papalii? appendicitis! Who the fuck gets that these days? Get rid of him.
Different situation. No-one was challenging McCaw for his AB slot. If Sam's fitness and its impact on the AB captaincy hasn't crossed management's mind, then they are even worse than their detractors claim

Happy for Folau! nothing else to really add
You do realise he needs to get a haircut? That stupid shit is OK at ITM and Super for comedy value but he has to wear the black jersey now
He's hardly the only one with a mullet. The blond noodles have long gone.
I know which of these looks better
Perfect illustration of what happens when a good Hastings Boys fellow gets corrupted in the South Island.
I think you meant to say perfect example of a player not good enough for the ABs below one who earned an ABs spot. There's something in that mullay...

Well he was 17 at the time. Now he’s an adult he’s the Bay’s most recent AB so I’m happy about that. And we were more than happy to lend his Bay developed expertise to the Highlanders too.

Oh come the fuck on. That's not going to happen even if he has a bad game. He's not a fragile little mental patient. He's shown more maturity and composure than Tupaea, yet you don't have the same reservation about him.
I really can't think of any players that have had their careers wrecked recently.

He featured heavily in our worst looking season in a while.

@Daffy-Jaffy Impact around the field is pretty low. Just not good enough.
He has bloody good last year. May be carrying an injury (knee?) or just hasn’t pounded pavements enough?

@Canes4life said in All Blacks 2022:
Second five is the biggest issue IMO. I really wanted to see TUJ in there, he's the only one in NZ rugby that continuously gets over the gain line.
Could he apprentice?

Only one specialist blindside in Akira Ioane? Think they’re going to miss Blackadder’s versatility.
Nah, plenty of blindside options with Papali’i or Vaa’i or Barrett
PGS covers 6?

Those props look picked for set piece vs Ireland.
Backs look a hell of a lot better.
Seems they only were prepared to carry one ‘all rounder’, so Angus in. Tough on Hodgman and De Groot.
-
@NZbloke said in All Blacks 2022:
Foster said they're keen to use Papalii on the blindside, I bet that was Schmidt's idea, not his... Papallii has never had the pace to be a link player at 7, which is a pretty big factor in the ABs playing a fast paced game.
Well as Foster talked about it last year, I not sure where you got that idea from.

Marty Holah was neck and neck with him early on as I recall, through to about 04 or so

Yeah, but Ritchie wasn't captain then.

I see that Foster has acknowledged that Jacobson was unlucky as he has been forced to play in all 3 loose forward positions for the Chiefs. On one hand that demonstrated his versatility, but he hasn't being playing in his preferred positions (6 or 8 ) in recent weeks. If he was at no.8 in Chch, the Chiefs would have got something out of those 1st half 5 m scrums.
PGS needs to play to his physical size because that wasn't the first time he's not scored when over the goal line.

Not too sure what QT has to do with it., but yeah, you right. I shouldn't have used "might wreck his career".
Would have been better if I had said "there's a risk his inexperience might be exploited by Ireland, he gets pulled early, he has a brain-fade which costs us the game, the selectors lose confidence in him and it seriously impacts his confidence & future selection"
That's better I think.
