He wasn't particularly excited about Jordie playing at 12. He thought he was one of our best last year with his work under the highball etc. However, perhaps he is an option there.
He views Rieko as a wing playing centre, but has been very impressed by his growth in the last year.

That is a shithouse take by a casual fan who's only watched a couple of clips on the news from 2-3 years ago right? Not the ABs coach watching these guys crush it in their positions this year?

Elliott Smith: Will Jordan, Sevu Reece, Rieko Ioane, Jordie Barrett, Caleb Clarke, Beauden Barrett, Aaron Smith, Ardie Savea, Sam Cane, Akira Ioane, Brodie Retallick, Sam Whitelock, Ofa Tuungafasi, Codie Taylor, Alex Hodgman

Reserves: Samisoni Taukeiaho, George Bower, Fletcher Newell, Scott Barrett, Dalton Papalii, Finlay Christie, Richie Mo'unga, Jack Goodhue.

Don’t mind that side, except for the starting loosehead

@ACT-Crusader nothing wrong with the starting LH, my issue is with the starting Hooker I would go with Taukeiaho.

Certainly not shirking his duties either, fitness doesn't appear to be an issue at all. Playing his best rugby imo

These were their teams at the end:

Who makes your All Blacks 23 for the first test?

Liam Napier: Jordie Barrett, Will Jordan, Rieko Ioane, Quinn Tupaea, Caleb Clarke, Beauden Barrett, Aaron Smith, Ardie Savea, Sam Cane, Dalton Papalii, Brodie Retallick, Sam Whitelock, Ofa Tuungafasi, Samisoni Taukeiaho, Ethan de Groot.
Reserves: Codie Taylor, Aidan Ross, Fletcher Newell, Tupou Vaa'i, Ethan Blackadder, Folau Fakatava, Richie Mo'unga, Jack Goodhue.
Elliott Smith: Will Jordan, Sevu Reece, Rieko Ioane, Jordie Barrett, Caleb Clarke, Beauden Barrett, Aaron Smith, Ardie Savea, Sam Cane, Akira Ioane, Brodie Retallick, Sam Whitelock, Ofa Tuungafasi, Codie Taylor, Alex Hodgman.
Reserves: Samisoni Taukeiaho, George Bower, Fletcher Newell, Scott Barrett, Dalton Papalii, Finlay Christie, Richie Mo'unga, Jack Goodhue.

Christopher Reive: Will Jordan, Sevu Reece, Rieko Ioane, Jordie Barrett, Caleb Clarke, Beauden Barrett, Aaron Smith, Ardie Savea, Sam Cane, Dalton Papalii, Brodie Retallick, Sam Whitelock, Ofa Tuungafasi, Codie Taylor, Ethan de Groot.

Reserves: Samisoni Taukeiaho, Ollie Norris, Nepo Laulala, Scott Barrett, Akira Ioane, Finlay Christie, Richie Mo'unga, Quinn Tupa

Retallick is being picked on reputation alone. He has done NOTHING this season, not last. No WAY Codie Taylor should be starting ahead of Samisoni.

Ma'a Nonu is being picked on reputation alone. He has done NOTHING (insert season here).

The reality is the ABs is the team that pays the bills. For NZ Rugby, I'd be happier if we don't play the stars into the ground in Super, but let them peak for the international season. That said, I have more hope for Taylor than Retallick. I really really want BBBR back, but fear we're going to get SLIBR instead (Small, Low Impact Brodie Retallick)

I would actually pick him, with the hope he comes right, but he must be on his last chance.

He is playing very very well (and it is awesome), but it really points out everything that has gone wrong with developing the younger locks (and our lack of class in that position) if Romano is the answer.

Does it? I think Lord shows a lot of promise with the way he throws himself about with not much to back him up, hopefully he fills out!

Two or three of the debutantes this season also showing a high level of aggression.

The generation in between the only ones that play similar are just too short!

If Bridge is anywhere near the squad or if Foster picks Havili and Goodhue as his center combination, I'm going to kick a Cantab' in the nuts.

I dunno, I'm a fan of Lords (I went to Kihikihi, every fucking good rugby player is either a Lord or a Hohepa), and I really love seeing Romano succeed, but there is something about the lack of development of our younger players that is really bugging me. I really want to see the AB15 (or whatever the fuck our second team is) out and playing. I feel like we let that go and we are paying for it now.

For example, in 2011, we won the world cup, but during the lead up to that tournament in 2009 we were running out the AB Junior team. This team from 2009 shows that some future long term ABs were getting their early chances at the level below - a few of those went on to the 2011 and 2015 squads (I think 6?). During the last few years I feel like if we'd been running out the AB15 for 5 matches a year we'd be developing that next level and not relying on the superstars to separate themselves from long-term greats - it's very hard to displace BBBR or Whitelock until it may be far too late.

Would Israel Dagg be ready to score his try against Oz in 2011 on that stage, without his experience of the Junior ABs in 2009 before the full squad in 2010? I dunno.

But, it's something I've been thinking about a lot lately (when I think about the ABs and where things might be going a bit haywire).

NZME rugby writers weigh in on who should be in the All Blacks squad.

Tuivasa-Sheck.....could sneak onto the bench for the third test in July if the All Blacks manage to win the first two.

You have to admire Liam Napier's optimism
