He views Rieko as a wing playing centre, but has been very impressed by his growth in the last year.
Huh? Why the fuck hasn't he been starting him on the wing instead of, say, Bridge then.
Eek, does that mean he rates him as a wing below all our current wings.

Versatility might become increasingly important in the loose forwards.
All of the loose forwards he's selected are versatile. Probably the least versatile, in terms of playing time, is Cane and he'd probably make a decent 6. Maybe Sotutu as well who may be seen exclusively as an 8?
I'd say it was a combination of ALBs injuries and the focus being to 'build depth' throughout the last few years. That, and not rating the other options aside from ALB

Might mean they want Goodhue at 13. I’d spit based on form, but with this coaching/selection panel I wouldn’t be surprised.

He wasn't particularly excited about Jordie playing at 12. He thought he was one of our best last year with his work under the highball etc. However, perhaps he is an option there.
He views Rieko as a wing playing centre, but has been very impressed by his growth in the last year. That is a shithouse take by a casual fan who's only watched a couple of clips on the news from 2-3 years ago right? Not the ABs coach watching these guys crush it in their positions this year?

Elliott Smith: Will Jordan, Sevu Reece, Rieko Ioane, Jordie Barrett, Caleb Clarke, Beauden Barrett, Aaron Smith, Ardie Savea, Sam Cane, Akira Ioane, Brodie Retallick, Sam Whitelock, Ofa Tuungafasi, Codie Taylor, Alex Hodgman
Reserves: Samisoni Taukeiaho, George Bower, Fletcher Newell, Scott Barrett, Dalton Papalii, Finlay Christie, Richie Mo'unga, Jack Goodhue.
Don’t mind that side, except for the starting loosehead

@ACT-Crusader nothing wrong with the starting LH, my issue is with the starting Hooker I would go with Taukeiaho.

These were their teams at the end:
Who makes your All Blacks 23 for the first test?
Liam Napier: Jordie Barrett, Will Jordan, Rieko Ioane, Quinn Tupaea, Caleb Clarke, Beauden Barrett, Aaron Smith, Ardie Savea, Sam Cane, Dalton Papalii, Brodie Retallick, Sam Whitelock, Ofa Tuungafasi, Samisoni Taukeiaho, Ethan de Groot.
Reserves: Codie Taylor, Aidan Ross, Fletcher Newell, Tupou Vaa'i, Ethan Blackadder, Folau Fakatava, Richie Mo'unga, Jack Goodhue.
Elliott Smith: Will Jordan, Sevu Reece, Rieko Ioane, Jordie Barrett, Caleb Clarke, Beauden Barrett, Aaron Smith, Ardie Savea, Sam Cane, Akira Ioane, Brodie Retallick, Sam Whitelock, Ofa Tuungafasi, Codie Taylor, Alex Hodgman.
Reserves: Samisoni Taukeiaho, George Bower, Fletcher Newell, Scott Barrett, Dalton Papalii, Finlay Christie, Richie Mo'unga, Jack Goodhue.Christopher Reive: Will Jordan, Sevu Reece, Rieko Ioane, Jordie Barrett, Caleb Clarke, Beauden Barrett, Aaron Smith, Ardie Savea, Sam Cane, Dalton Papalii, Brodie Retallick, Sam Whitelock, Ofa Tuungafasi, Codie Taylor, Ethan de Groot.
Reserves: Samisoni Taukeiaho, Ollie Norris, Nepo Laulala, Scott Barrett, Akira Ioane, Finlay Christie, Richie Mo'unga, Quinn Tupa
Retallick is being picked on reputation alone. He has done NOTHING this season, not last. No WAY Codie Taylor should be starting ahead of Samisoni.

Ma'a Nonu is being picked on reputation alone. He has done NOTHING (insert season here).
The reality is the ABs is the team that pays the bills. For NZ Rugby, I'd be happier if we don't play the stars into the ground in Super, but let them peak for the international season. That said, I have more hope for Taylor than Retallick. I really really want BBBR back, but fear we're going to get SLIBR instead (Small, Low Impact Brodie Retallick)

I would actually pick him, with the hope he comes right, but he must be on his last chance.

If Retallick can't hit his straps, Romano is showing everything the ABs have been lacking.
He is playing very very well (and it is awesome), but it really points out everything that has gone wrong with developing the younger locks (and our lack of class in that position) if Romano is the answer.

Does it? I think Lord shows a lot of promise with the way he throws himself about with not much to back him up, hopefully he fills out!
Two or three of the debutantes this season also showing a high level of aggression.
The generation in between the only ones that play similar are just too short!
