Just watched. Well done Ireland. Tough with a pedantic ref team though.
Observations: Reiko is not worth persevering with as a centre as smarts and timing are amiss and his use of his speed is reduced. Our front rowers are lacking in skills and smarts. Laulala was ponderous today and Taylor was well below his best. Coles and ST for France please. Loss of Beauden was critical as Mounga does not control as well in an attritional game. The high workrate of the wingers Retallick and Papalii kept us in the game longer than we deserved to be. The absence of Aaron Smith is huge as the AB's attack is nowhere near as threatening.
Well done Keenan Lowe and that Irish pack. -
The constant fuck up here is the Coaching staff.
We have virtually the whole squad of 40 play in the last 2 games v Italy and Ireland and we have played shit in both.So if it’s the players fault we drop the whole 40 and start again and if they are all shit, who had a big hand in selecting them Foster who is head coach and we keep losing to teams who play the same way against us over and over again, and can’t work out how to win against them.
I know who I see as the major problem.Edit .Same sort of deal with Foster time as coach of the Chiefs so it’s not a new thing with Foster being poor.

Unfortunately the Irish dominated the contact area.
A feature of our opposition for the past few years with us struggling to impose our game on them we are forced to play thier game and usually catch up.
I think we have the cattle, sure some are on thier last legs, but I think it comes down to how we are playing.
We are far too reactive and passive, little creativity and rarely do we dominate most aspects of the game anymore.
We certainly don't own the final quarter like we used to.
As strong as TJP was on defence, we depend on Aaron Smith to organise our forwards on attack and he was sorely missed

Retallick shouldn't have come straight back into the ABs. He should have demonstrated he still had it in the NPC. Buggered off for two years then handed a jersey on little basis. Has been weak this year.
You can’t play as well as he has indefinitely, might be the beginning of the end for his career now he’s reached 30.

@canefan still need to do the work up front for Smith to get things moving, just too passive and lack of cohesion, balance of so many aspects of our game just isn't right.
We aren't making metres, or those that do are usually lone rangers (Ardie does this often, his leg drive gets him through but also can lead to him getting isolated.

The constant fuck up here is the Coaching staff.
The only team we seem to have a good game plan against is Australia.
Our defence is passive, our forward positioning, use, and selection is poor, and our attack and structure haven't changed for about 8 years.
We are poorly coached, and have the same problems as every other year.

Agreed. We seem unwilling or unable to go forward consistently

Dalton is a fantastic player but he isn’t crafty yet. The Irish were so much better at riding the ref and forcing slow ball
The lack of physicality was the most concerning. Where were the momentum stopping tackles across the whole pack? A big hit stops progress and forces the opposition into a kick. The Irish were able to march up the field. Sure, not many clean breaks but the easy metres that wore us down. That’s part of the reason so many ABs had high tackle stats
It reminded me of a Wallabies pack from a few years ago. Tight five without an edge and an energetic but ineffective Pooper back row of 7’s
-
An example is that they stuck one loose forward (typically Ioane and Savea) on either wing, or wide but not on the wing, in every game against Australia. It worked well for capitalising on turnovers, and quick and wide ball, with speedy ball carriers, cleanout options, and next phase options out there. Then we did exactly the same thing two games in a row against South Africa, and most of the time the ball didn't get out to there. No thought to bringing Ioane into the midfield and putting Taylor into the wing area consistently. Or just using the loose forwards tighter ...

Amazing that people still refuse to blame the coach.
Why even watch sport if you are so defeatist? We can't pull players out of thin air and the vast majority of our best players have been selected. Sack Foster and at the very least we have a chance.
If my bladder was bursting and he was on fire and burning to death in front of me etc.

Totally agree , it’s going to bad until after the WC by the looks of things,
This 4 year cycle between WCs wasted. -

Yep it’s pretty obvious sack the Idiot, or this will keep happening for 2 more years.

This 4 year cycle between WCs wasted. Our loose trio (Ardie excepted) have promise but are young and inexperienced. Tight 5 are not the force they once were. We lack a dominant controlling 10 and our midfield is a puzzle yet to be solved. Lean days for ABs supporters right now

@chris well at least we have put paid to the peaking in between RWC bs!
Yes Foster has stuffed that as well.

Who is selecting and coaching them, that’s the problem.

He's part of the problem, and doesn't seem to able to provide solutions

Or this could be the peak...

Had to chuckle that we were criticising the Boks for their bomb tactics but that was literally all we were doing for most of the first half.
Absolutely clueless shit. No depth, no structure. Been the same for a few years now. Guess what? It doesn't work.
