Biggest question for me is can we produce an aggressive defence effort to counter the Australians? We made double their tackles but produced less turnovers, indicating that we were well off the mark in defensive structure, and not up to it physically.

I have a lot of doubts about Scott MacLeod and the loose forwards.

to my eyes that would require a complete change in thinking and strategy. our system looks a continuation of the "hold them until they give us the ball back, and then we score" plan of the last few years. Don't rush because that carries risk, passive line speed, accurate tackling.

I noticed a few times that Ioane rushed out of the line. I wonder if that was a pre planned tactic to take away space. I’m in two minds about it’s effectiveness and the risk it presents.

it wasn't just him, Mo'unga did it a couple of times as well, so i am guessing tactic to limit where they can attack? I hate that shit because it leaves huge holes.

It's risky. The Boks did that well last year. Mostly it was Faf

I though Ofa was sometimes a shooter too. Every tackle he missed was erring on the outside so it was forcing runners back towards the pack

Yeah notice Ofa do it also closer in. Franks also played that shooter as well.

Ioane was doing it quite wide though which sort of surprised me.

    When’s the team named?

The amount of time and space White had was just ridiculous! It was the same as last year! He is running the cutter and setting up ball runners with an invisibility cloak on. Isn't it obvious if you pressure him and take away that space, the Wobs would find the going tougher?

@number9 I think we agree. Riding someone to the ground with your weight is hardly tackling.

I want to see mongrel that puts the Aussies in two minds whether they take us in up front. Sam Cane worked his ass off, Savea was just OK and Frizzell just fizzled.
Pat did not get involved, the front rowers were solid but did not dominate at the breakdown. Whitlock played a straightforward game with nothing special.
Aaron Smith was ordinary the box kicking did not work, we kicked away possession when we should have used it.
Richie got destroyed out there by the Aussie line speed, we simply lacked mongrel. The Aussies had it, Sunday in The Garden of Eden is pay back time.

In reviewing the test, it's impossible to ignore the unpunished incidents.

Foster expects Beauden Barrett to return from his minor Achilles complaint that forced him to withdraw two days before the opening Bledisloe but would not yet confirm whether he would slot straight into the fullback role for Damian McKenzie.

The only other concern for the All Blacks is the imminent arrival of Ardie Savea's second child. Savea relocated to Auckland with the squad on Monday but naturally wants to be present for the birth.

Agree Tim. Watched the game again and our line speed was non existent at times. We just waited for the Aussie forwards to run at us instead of rushing up and belting them like they did so well to us. Not one journo has raised this so far to Foster and co, no wonder the coaching staff get away with poor performances. McLeod has to go imo.

So maybe Sotutu to start and either Akira or Papalii on bench?
Ardie’s missus is expecting and likely to time things badly

Fozzie just doesn't come across as very charismatic, somebody the players really respect and want to perform for. Rennie has it, Robertson has it, Erasmus has it and Ted Lasso has it in spades.

I would love to know what the players really think of Fozzie, are they 100% with him or do some of the more experienced players think 'Why did they pick this dipshit?'

I wouldn’t be relying on any of these journos to ask questions that require them to have watched the game with any sort of analytical eye.

.....are you implying Hansen did ?

Henry had some really droll wit, loads of people say that Hansen did but I found this pretty intermittent.

I don't think a Rugby coach needs to be an elite athlete as such but losing a few kgs would go a long way to gaining respect in my eyes.

A fat fluffybunny telling you to "work on your fitness" doesn't quite have the same impact.

Yeah I've wondered how this kind of hypocrisy goes down. Eddie Jones apparently had a habit of calling players "fat cnut". And that was when he himself looked like a condom stuffed with walnuts.

this is how Clive James described Arnie.

All of you give Moody and Taylor as automatic starters but I think they were pretty anonymous in Bledisloe 1. Coles brought more aggression when he came in. Hodgman should be included in the 23 IMO.
