All Black Coach - Ian Foster

@Old-Samurai-Jack I still think that most of the ABs problems in recent seasons have started up front and I don't know how much influence Foster had there. Less than Hansen and Cron I believe.
As for selections, we will see how different Foster's first AB team is from this year's team. That will give us some indication on who was the dominant voice in player selection.
Precisely - I was just going to mention that I'd like to hear what changes Foster has made/ will make and why.

Aussie rugby never won 80% of their games, but won enough to win Bledisloes and the odd World Cup. Rennie can do that for you if the fishheads get out of his way.
I'm also cognisant of the fact Rennie isn't in the saddle fulltime until July.

Current contract? Long way away

Glasgow Warriors.
Sure, the miracle of interwebs and the necessary competition breaks up there for him to fly down make it less than impossible, but it'll be onerous, that's for sure.

At the very least you'll be rid of Chieka's siege mentality that must have rubbed off to the players.
They're grown men. If they came in with a bad attitude - and sources suggest a few did - then a change of coach won't help that.
Hopefully the attitude is discarded.
Or those with the wrong attitude are discarded. The issue is where bad attitude and prominent talent collide.

So obviously foster would be paying this out of his own pocket, cos why should NZR pay it? I could say I have all sorts of coaches lined up in my team, you just have to pay them and their current employers millions. Pile of shit from this process gets deeper, if true
-
I thought that this process was all about 'teams' rather than individual coaches. Did Fozzie mention that you'll need to get the lawyers and the chequebook out?
This 'process' looks more and more like NZR don't have balls.
Way back in 2007 there was an argument that I found quite convincing. Basically, the real reason Henry was reappointed was because to sack him was to say that he'd got it wrong, and given the wide latitude the board had given him (with R&R etc) that basically meant that the board had fucked up too. So they reappointed him (coming up with the 'his group was better' line as self justification).
Of course retaining Henry was the right decision so all that died away and the board could pat themselves on the back for making good decisions for bad reasons.
But ultimately process is what makes great sports organisation. Great players and coaches come and go, but if you're consistently making good decisions then you can make the most of the chances you have.
But when you don't have good process, when you're worried about self justification, looking after mates or anything else, then inevitably things go tits up and while things are good you look great, but when you get into a tough spot you're fucked.
Coming back to the preset situation, I wonder if this is that poor process coming back to bite us. NZR couldn't get Hansen to move on because he'd always been there and so he might have stayed on too long. Foster's got the job because he's a great bloke. Or because the board can safely fire him in two years if things go bad and they have a nice story about trying for continuity but needing fresh blood.
Meanwhile Rennie's a bit too different. He won't take crap. He'll change up when things don't work. Move on poor players. He gets a sense of how things are blowing at HQ and so gambles on the 4 year deal the ARU give him.
The NZR board look at Razor and can't quite see past the surfer bro personality, the immature hair cut and the 3/4ths of the country who are already to blast them if yet another favoured crusader son gets a plum job and blows it.
So they fall back on their tried and true method. 'Its not about individuals, its about packages'. Probably they know that Tony Brown is already deciding that he's only going to play number 2 to Jospeh. That makes it easier to rule out Razor, he doesn't have a team.
Enter Fozzie. Asked for his team, he can only think of a bunch of ex crusaders who probably aren't even in the country anymore, and oh he'd seen Plumtree talking about 7 foot saffers this morning so surely he'll come in (he always was better behind the scenes anyway).
They take the risk. How badly can Rome burn while the board is playing the fiddle anyway?

So where do all these rumours, about who the proposed assistant coaches are, come from? Did Foster publicly say in an interview who he wanted in his team? Did someone leak? Or are these assumptions from some journalists which have been copied by others? Have these candidate assistant coaches said something that provides any basis for these speculations?
I know these rumours about the composition of the coaching teams from both Foster and Robertson have been circulating for the last few weeks, but has anyone actually read or heard an interview in which this has been said? I can't imagine any of Foster, Robertson or NZR saying something before it's a done deal. So how reliable is this info?
For example, has Hurricanes CEO Avan Lee said something about contingency plans in case Plumtree joins Foster's team, or is this also speculation?
I can't keep up with the rumour mill. There's so much clickbait. It's so hard to know what to believe that I hardly believe anything anymore.

From the Foster side people talk - it's not a state secret. Foster may have asked others to consider saying I have X,Y and Z on board already. No doubt he has his contacts in the media if he wanted to get this out.
Robertson obviously has his boosters in the media too.

I don't see why Plumtree (or MacDonald if Roberston was successful) would not be able to coach out this season like Deans in 2008. There might be a few new hurdles to jump through with the private ownership. I doubt there will be any comment until a contract has been signed.

Were any editors around the country saying "Circulation is down we need to get the jump on a new Brad Mooar rumour"?

People also leak things. Doesn't mean everything is clickbait.
I didn't say everything is clickbait. Just that there is a lot of it. And because of that, it is hard to know what information is true and what isn't.

We. Are. Fucked.

@Stargazer said in All Black Coach - Ian Foster:
@rotated I don't think circulation needs to be down for editors to produce clickbait.
True, but clickbait would be "Henry back as Foster's assistant?" not Mooar/Feek etc.
