RWC: England v New Zealand (SF1)

@PN Well, one guy came out of that looking like a complete twat, and one guy came out sounding like a decent reasonable bloke.
Unfortunately... which one does everybody think is going to be offered the more work providing "commentary" and "opinion" pieces? -

And Haskell has got an MMA career to big up. Hence the 'it's on' stance.
His take on Peyper's standing down is spot on.

Why do they never make journalists speak into a mic??

@MiketheSnow what's his stance on Peyper?
I don't think it really matters how he interprets it, that's up to him. If that's how he wants to "use" it then go for it, I doubt it ever really worked out well for him. I think he's probably just trying to get a laugh though.
-
Slightly different take.

Supports Peyper 100%
Says rugby is heading in the wrong direction.

@MiketheSnow yeah can't argue with that!

Best thing about this England campaign is not seeing & hearing John Inverdale.

Journalist: Mumble mumble mumbleI think they are using a mic, it’s just that most media outlets don’t have access to this audio, they just have their audio record from the table where the coach is. A way around this would be to have a second audio recording device next to the PA speaker and mix them in post.

just watching the Hansen presser below. He's a legend, relaxed in his own skin, playing the media, honest, disarming and a great advertisement for rugby. I'll miss him when he's finished. Dead set legend, no matter what happens from here.
I reckon he should be the PM.

Eddie has been preparing to beat the All Blacks for the past 4 years.....but the trouble is, he's prepared for the 2018 team. He's worked out how to blunt SBW's penetration at 12, how to restrict Beauden's space at 10, how to exploit Franks' lack of mobility at prop, and how to test Ben Smith at 15 under the high ball.
The trouble is we're a slippery shapeshifting* ninja of a team that has evolved massively in the last 12 months, even the last 6 months! No opposition coach, not even Golden Eddie, can come up with a new plan and implement it in such a short timeframe. Credit to Shag and the team for being brave and changing things up. Beaunga, two brand new wingers, neither of Crotty/SBW starting, and Jordie coming on at 60mins is a fucking nightmare for the opposition because it's SO different to what they thought they'd be dealing with. Which is why we pump them tomorrow, and look great doing it
*borrowed that from another poster, but great word for it!

So...who is under the most pressure..the ABS to be the triple holders or Eddie to win his first RWC as coach and for England to prove they are not one trick ponies...???? He claims he has no pressure whatsoever...
Nup sorry Steady Eddie...not buying it.

No it doesn’t, because if it did 2003 would’ve been very different...

Much discussion on the starting forward pack ,
How does everyone expect the bench ( forwards) to be used ,Are we going to close the game with the two 7s ? how does pat t get used ? He does provide good impact , I’m sure they would like to utilise that in some capacity
We will have a very significant height advantage at the lineout - where we have four genuine lineout jumpers - where England only has two - and Itoje is a pretty short lock. If we can make this count, we could push Eddie into having to sub one of his fast flankers early and push Itoje to blindside. IF we're able to turn our height advantage at the lineout into steals and everything else is going well, then I think the introduction of Cane (for Barrett) will be delayed - maybe to around 60 minutes - otherwise they may make that change at halftime. I'll be surprised if Patty T. gets more than 15 minutes - in the event of an early injury to one of our starting locks, I think they'd shift Barrett to lock initially and bring on Cane.
In the scrum, I think my big worry would be an early injury to Joe Moody - our bench props' scrumming worries me, but if Nepo were to go down early, I'd be inclined to send Ofa out to play tighthead, which would be solid. I'd be really worried if Ta'avao was asked to play 60+ minutes.
Aside from that, we need to knock their big ball carriers down quickly, be very disciplined and deny Farrell opportunities to push the scoreboard along, and be a bit wary of interception opportunities with big, wide skip passes.
Whomever gets ahead with any sort of buffer is likely to be very hard to peg back - so lets hope it's us.
I've really got no idea how this game will play out - especially if we don't dominate their lineout. But, if we do - I think that should be a big step towards us winning.
Coles and Marler better scrummagers than starting props.
See from Press Con Patty T is to cover lock.
