@Crucial I guess all of us remember where we were for that game. The emotional rollercoaster was immense.
In the cold light of day though, jeez our defence to let them back in was a black mark.
But, a win's a win
working. in a bar that didn't have TVs. Took me years to see it.
-
@Siam Yep, our offence was good that day...
IIRC that one and the next one in Wellington were crackers, with the better team having the least points in both games.
I was living in UK at the time, not sure why we hadnt gone into a pub to watch that one?

Yep. Had to switch the TV off for a few minutes when Aus drew level. Otherwise I probably would have inserted my boot into it.
Imagine this team with that type of lead after 6 minutes. Shut the gate.

Do the All Blacks ever run the ball from Number 8 from a scrum?
It would seem a criminal waste of space to me.
Ardie at faux 8, running some scrum ball, during the warm-ups/friendlies/TRC/Bled - I might be OK with as a giant decoy for the bigger picture later on, to hold defences closer in - when in actual fact we have no intention of going down the fatty-Vunipola type channels.
I'm OK with a big unit doing some pick and goes, and rumbling up some messy ruck ball. But not from beautiful sweet, sweet set piece scrums.
Geez I know it was only a friendly but the Argentina game really wasn't that long ago. Notable for laughable occasions with Ardie breaking off the back of the scrum so effectively there was initially no defenders in sight.

Hopefully a taster.
Could do with this game not going down to the wire and Argie doing an overhead pass to Ioane to win the game.
I have to travel to the airport with about 20 to go.Thanks for posting that.
Lomu really was a giant of the game. For our 2nd try you can hear the crowd come to life as soon as the ball is passed to him. There really hasn’t been anyone else like him in that regard.

The Chiefs had a couple of nice breaks from #8 during this season.
Then again, they did some Willie-away moves, so perhaps they were just doing them out of nostalgia.
I can't recall the last time the ABs did a really effective back line set play from a scrum.

I was pissed off we let them back in that easily , I didnt enjoy that game the way most did for that reason..... but Im probably a grumpy bastard .
-
As previously stated: was at the game in 2000. Jonah was immense with the ball, but in defense was also the reason Mortlock had a good game - slow to turn.
It was disappointing to lose, but my lasting memory will be on the way back to the train station, a grown man in black flipping off a mouthy kid dressed in gold.

A mouthy Aussie, who would have thought?
Pretty sure the little shit would have deserved it too, oh and it's yellow, gold is a metal, yellow is a colour.Bring on the match.

Fixed

@Chester-Draws it’s puzzling because with defences 5 yards back there is a ton of space for a fast, ball playing 8 to exploit. And yet, I can’t think of a single effective play off the back of the scrum at test level in recent memory.
Anyone got one more recent than this:

Yeah but it’s games like these that provide the reasons we watch sports. The unpredictable nature and up and down emotional ride....
The big guy gets remembered for that last minute try but the pass to him has to be the best thing Taine Randell ever did in black (he had a pretty good game IIRC). That pass was quite amazing. -
Taine Randall gets way more shit as a player than he deserves

Few fans give a fuck who won a game on EOYT or Summer tour in 2016-17 if you deliver the goods come RWC time
That would be why we took not winning the last Lions tour with such grace and calm then!
And why we weren't remotely upset about losing to Ireland. Either time.
And why when we finally lose the Bledisloe that everyone will be cool with it.
You do talk some shit.
