    I'd cop a rucking to kill a ball.

    Have repeatedly. You don't feel it till the next day anyway ....

    Yeah, lost count of the number of times I'd catch my back/side in a mirror that night or the next day and notice the stripes, thinking "I don't remember that".

    If you actually registered you got rucked at the time it happened... yeah ... that hurt. But only after the game.

    Otherwise it was ... oh yeah .. don't remember that... owww now ...

    Aah. We are back to the bring-back-rucking dream 🙂

    One of the fiercest ruckings I can recall receiving was from my own scrumhalf - who was built like a mini battleship.
    I asked him WTF he was thinking? His reply? " You were in the way of me getting the ball"

    Fun times.

    The other point that has been completely mossed in all the whinging about BB rolling a ball a couple of feet forward is how the hell was the forward pass from Le roux to the winger before the final try not picked up? The AR was right there.

    That little sequence of "ferning" about rucking is the best I have seen.

    You all survived rucking too.

    Crazy bugger, but awesome teammate. The sort you want on your team rather than the oppo.
    Just don't get between him and the ball...

    @mariner4life

    I’m ok with people entering rucks on their feet too. However, watch how many time people just dive over them. That’s not only a penalty, it’s also bloody dangerous. If they focused a bit more on that, we’d actually see teams needing to commit people to rucks. I wonder what that might mean for space on the edges?

    i disagree with that, the worst offenders are the attackers, and they are diving at nothing (or the one guy sent to attack the ball). Coaches won't allow space on the edges no matter what interpretations are in place. Be really hard on those cleanouts? Then defending teams will feel that there is more to be gained by sending one guy hard at the ball, your odds go up. Coaches are smarter than administrators, and have zero fucks to give about the way a game looks.

    There's a bit of a chicken and egg argument here - would the attacking players be so prone to going off their feet if the defending player (i.e. the "jackal") was prevented from simply flopping over the ball, using the tackled player to keep himself up...? I'm still grappling with this, but my view is that the ruck is better if it becomes a pushing contest like basically all other forward contests in the game (i.e. scrums, mauls). This would encourage more people towards the ruck (because you'd need more people to push the other team off the ball) and open up space out wider. I am certain that there would be some negatives with this - there always is with any change - but, currently, I can't see a better way of solving the ruck problem and creating space on the pitch.
