    Poor stuart barnes

At least Stuart Barnes isn't rabidly anti-AB like some.

One of my fondest memories is Clive Woodward's face when the AB's snatched a win in Dublin in '13 after he had been wittering on about "Ireland's great victory".

Disagree, hes also a twat of massive proportions. Whoever put this together had some fun.

    Mo’unga 10 Barrett 15 please

    ‘Twas the difference.

Smith at 15. Beaudy off the bench like SBW in 2015 very early in the second half.

They keep preaching it is a 23 man game, it's clear Beauden's best position is off the bench against a tiring defence.

If we are being honest, B. Barrett is the best fullback in the squad. He does everything Bender can do, high ball, counterattack, linking, even the jinking runs. He’s quicker and covers the ground better. He just happens to be a pretty good 10 as well.

I’m a big fan of Bender on the right wing though.

That thought was going through my mind as well re beaudy ,

And I think if Richie continues to improve,

The question will be asked is this 10 .Richie 14 bender 15 beaudy

A better balanced selection than what started last night ,

Not intended as a put down on beauden who one of the first selected each week , but more of where he best serves us

Just watched a six min highlights package, that was about 30 sec of 1st half and the rest 2nd. From reading posts on here, sounds about a perfect round up of the game in terms of the amount of AB quality.

While I'm glad we won, it's a bit concerning in the lead up to the EOYT that we played 65 mins of pretty shit rugby.

Haven't read the thread yet, but I know it will make for some entertaining reading.

Fuck me we were awful. We really did not deserve to win that (aside from the fact we got enough points to win 😉 ). Annoyingly I didn't even get that elated yes we've won right on fulltime - it was just "what was that crap?"

So much shit kicking from Barrett. The midfield were awful, Bizzle seemed to forget how to tackle properly - although Crotty improved when ALB came on.

The forwards didn't impose themselves on the Boks for most of the game but did some good work to get the pick and go tries at the end.

Did we even get two phases in the first half?

Christ, fantastic finish and excellent play to close it out. However, notice the backs played almost no part in that.

Smith, Barrett (at 10) and SBW all poor.

Consistently terrible option taking and zero patience for 60 odd minutes, with poor individual skill by many - including straight missed tackles (SBW, Perry) and misalignment (Crotty).

SA were like 2009 all over again, just playing for territory then taking advantage of our mistakes, of which we made plenty. They look like a WC team in building, but I suspect lack class to get past Ireland.

Barrett is just shit at 10. That cross kick was shit all day and the one at 69 minutes (when our chaser was Read, while we kicked to their two fastest) was enough to make me scream loud enough to wake the baby.

In the forwards, we just lack class with the number of injuries we have. Romano is possibly a better bet against SA, but he’s old. At 6, who?

Brilliant, and possibly very valuable finish, but we’re bad for 60 to 65 minutes, and it’s due to individuals’ poor choices - whose coaching these skills and discussing options? On form, you’d have to argue that A Smith needs to be sat down, and that our team would be better with Barrett at the back. Probably BFA at 14, which helps to cover for game plan change (Wise isn’t as safe under the high ball and they took advantage).

In the forwards, Moody coming back will make a huge difference - Perry with a couple of shockers in D.

Pat T went OK but still can be counted on to spill it a couple of times, while S Barrett is reasonable off the bench but just not imposing enough against the big boys. So, Lock remains the biggest issue for me - I’ll be surprised if we can keep both Whitelock and BBBR healthy all next year..,

Get the ball to Rieko in some space in the second half please.

    Rieko’s playing?

He spent all first half chasing duff kicks.

@gt12 I don't think Pat T can be blamed for that knock on really, the pass went hard straight to his shoulder.

Maybe, but it’s been a continuing issue for him. I hope he can step up, because we need him to.

I’m still wondering how we can be so bad for so much of the game - I watched the replay so it just jumps out - don’t touch the ball for 6 minutes, get ball, cross kick, don’t touch ball for six minutes (giving up penalties and 3 points), get ball, try offload in traffic on first phase (thanks SBW), don’t touch ball for six minutes, get ball, drop ball, rinse, repeat, take one chance (42 minutes), don’t touch ball for six minutes....

Completing my read of the whole thread looks like I was beaten to the punch by at least 3 other posters. He put in a solid effort when he came on, not sure anyone can have an issue with that.

That explanation of the game is exactly how it should be described.

One of the most frustrating plays of the game was when we had little to no ball , finally get a scrum feed , ok I thought , opportunity to get settled and put some phases together ,

ASmith passes to naholo on the blind , who kicks the ball away .

@nepia I agree with coms regarding that incident, was a very pass to take..but I will say if Tuipulotu can improve his handling in general I would be way more comfortable about using him.

Was that the one where crotty threw a spiral at his shoulder? Fuck this place marks according to pre-existing ideas about players

Deadset burglary. For 70 minutes there wasn't a single All Black who was better than his opposite number. And yet we won. Fuck knows how. Belief?

We've got issues. Our defensive system has broken down. South Africa probably should have had a coupke more tries such was the ease with which we got opened in the first 3/4 of the game.

Up front we were so ordinary. S Barrett is little more than adequate, and yet still played far beyter at 6 than the starter. So that's 2 substandard players in the 8. Throw in Read having his worst test in years, Taylor the same, and Cane going off, and we got owned up front.

A Smith sucked intil the 50 minute mark, and it's little surpise to me that him getting his shit together instantly improved us. Barrett is a shit 10 and needs to go, surel even his fluffers can see that now. SBW is done. Crotty is barely hanging on. Naholo is not doing enough to justify a spot.

Go the bench! Big impact from the forwards especially, but also Mounga and ALB.

Gutting for South Africa, that won't be a pleasant video session on Tuesday. They are a bloody good team though, with a lot of gun players

But a totally catchable one - not a fast spiral, just an inside ball at his shoulder (a little behind him). He was set for it and should have caught it - it’s at the 70 minute mark, go check it.

@mariner4life the All Blacks scored 19 unanswered points in the last 20 minutes, the Boks looked gassed, the coach went to the bench and they offered nothing..!,
2 of the 3 bok tries came from straight missed tackles.
All 4 of the All Black tries came from great lead up work..
The captaincy was essential in the closing 10 minutes..he kept the team driven, every stoppage Read spoke to the team..
Given we had no Retallick, lost Goodhue before kickoff..!
Will take this win every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
The Blacks looked the more likely team with 20 to go..!

The individual missed tackles are a killer, and a lot of them happened through 10-14. A total of 24 missed according to ESPN, with B Barrett (3), SBW (3, I think one leading to a try), Crotty (2, including one misalignment leading to a try), Ioane 2), Naholo (1).

Up front Perry had one bad miss which allowed Allende to score, while Franks, Mr T, and Whitelock also missed a couple. I’m pretty sure that Taylor missed a crucial one too. So, credit to the Boks for their strength and ball running, but many of these were just straight up misses (two that jump out are SBW and Perry).

Much of this is due to playing without the ball, but if they are going to give up the ball and territory, they need to be much more accurate on defense.
