HURRICANES WELCOME TYREL LOMAX ON FOUR-YEAR DEAL
Rising young All Blacks prop Tyrel Lomax has signed a four-year deal with the Hurricanes through until at least 2023. Lomax, who has strong ties to Wellington with extended family living in Wainuiomata, will join the Hurricanes ahead of the 2020 Investec Super Rugby competition. The son of former Kiwis international John Lomax, who played 15 tests for the Kiwis and had a long professional league career with the Canberra Raiders, North Queensland Cowboys and Melbourne Storm, Lomax has made a significant impression since he shifted back to New Zealand to pursue a long held ambition to be an All Black. After making his Super Rugby debut for the Melbourne Rebels in 2017, the 23-year-old joined Ta$man in the 2017 Mitre 10 Cup and quickly established himself as first choice tighthead which earned selection in the Highlanders Super Rugby squad in 2018. He was selected in the All Blacks last November where he made his All Black debut against Japan after a number of strong performances in Super Rugby Lomax also impressed for the Maori All Blacks when he represented the side on its end of year tour of Canada and France in 2017.
Hurricanes head coach John Plumtree was naturally delighted to have secured Lomax on a long-term deal. "His potential is obvious for everyone to see. He's a very impressive young man who is developing his game at a rapid rate. He is a powerful player, has a strong skill set and we are really excited about working with him," he said. "It's great to be able to bring Tyrel back to the Wellington region where we know he will receive a lot of support and quickly establish himself in the Hurricanes club." Hurricanes chief executive Avan Lee paid tribute to the amount of work the club's high performance team had put into negotiations with Lomax about a possible move to Wellington. "Having talked to Tyrel we know that he will make a big contribution to the Hurricanes moving forward. Tyrel is a significant signing for us," he said. "It is an area we want to strengthen and we believe we have the perfect person to help us do that."

For such an articulate guy he still had to throw in a 'guttered'!!
Was it SBW that really intro'd that to NZ rugby parlance? or is some other mofo to blame.
All the best for your rehab NMS, sucks things haven't gone well with his rehab.
It’s a shame his initials are NMS and not SBW otherwise I’m sure he’d be straight back in the ABs

Lomax (an excellent signing) and Fidow. Very promising. It might turn a weakness into a strength
We just need another good LH (maybe Numia) and then (maybe) the Canes will end up with a VG front row. Then find another 1 or 2 good locks to partner Walker Leaware and the forwards without injuries will compete with any team.
The backs look as strong as any team as long as they can hold onto Barrett and Perenara. But we need to find better backups. Garden Bachop has a VG game against the Blues and could develop into a good backup but Fletcher Smith looks ordinary at best and a decent replacement needs to be found for him (hopefully he's only signed for 1 year).
Christie looks a bit up and down. I was a lot more impressed with Judd. So Judd and another good HB with Perenara
The Canes now have the makings of a very strong team. Right up there with the Crusaders.
The issue though that super rugby has is unequal teams. Its something NZ rugby need to address. So if all NZ teams are more even then overseas teams will have a better hope of winning. Otherwise super rugby will slowly die.

I think he does alright with his current initials, got him undeserved AB matches last year.

Ah yes when the ABs decided they needed someone even slower than Owen Franks in the team.

Was discussing misuse of words with Ms boo jr yesterday. "Guttered" came up. She was incredulous.
(P.S. don't start me on "verse" and "versing".)
Must be an Aussie thing, I've never heard versing before.

Gutted, sure. Munted is common slang for being drunk.

Nup. Last heard used by one of the young newsreader types on Radio Sport NZ heard through the Week on Demand website thingame advertising a CWC game.
Some country will verse other country.
"Verse": the improper derivation of the preposition "versus" meaning against (used especially to indicate an action brought by one party against another in a court of law, or to denote competing teams or players in a sports contest). (Definition of "versus" from dictionary.com.)
Had a giggle at the girls in Ms boo jr's netball team (13 -15yos) when they asked who they were "versing". "Isn't that a word?" they asked.
The thing that shits me (we should reinstate that thread, huh? A classic of historical Fernage, or have a grumpy old man thread) is that it will become a word, and become accepted (much like "your" will replace "you're").

@Canes4life Fletcher Smith signed a 2 year contract not 1.
-
Looks like the Canes might not go for McClutchie as they have signed this kid from Manawatu:
-
@Canes4life I don't read this article as saying the Canes have signed this kid. Wellington has signed him and the Canes have had some involvement in that. It looks to me - again - as if the Canes prefer talent that they are interested in, to be playing in Wellington instead of their other provinces. Which is typical of the Wellington bias. Again.
