What player has transitioned from playing to commentating well?Whilst I hate the Aussie commentary I don't mind Tim Horan, he seems to provide the most unbiased comments. Phil Kearns and Rod Kafer however are a different story.

Kafer used to be good. Even the host of their rugby show used to be good value, but he was harping on about the NZ Herald being the mouthpiece of NZR last week - how flippin stupid is that, has he never heard of Ratpoo.

@chimoaus Horan was a fabulous player but he hasn't got a voice for commentary.
Once you have lived here for awhile you get used to that weird accent. However, the sheep jokes never get any better...

I hope the ABs smash the Lions if only for the talk of Gatland ever coaching the ABs to stop. This fucker should be nowhere near the job
Tew made a lot of nice comments about about 'why would we not have him on our list' but in reality I think that unless things start looking very stale and one of the existing team doesn't have clear plans on how to refresh they will stay down the path of succession.
It is the system that has built a long period of dominance and consistency.
There may well come a time when fresh ideas are needed from outside the group but part of the way it works now is to encourage others in the coaching team to hold their own ideas and challenge. The head coach simply has the last say.Of all possible "outside" contenders, Schmidt, to me, would be a better fit than Gatland. He can clearly coach and also tends to carry himself in a way which would suggest that he could slot fairly easily into the existing set up without completely over turning the apple cart.

Happy to see Barrett at fullback.
My concern is the midfield. ALB has been off the pace this series, literally. He seems to have struggled reading the Lions attack. Laumape also got exposed defensively last week. Attack isn't so much of a worry, but it was a bit of a concern last weekend that Cruden felt the need to kick rather than go to his midfield when the pressure was on. No trust.
Savea back because of the concussion/illness. Makes sense.

J Barrett is the luckiest All Black since some of those Cantab nuffies of the early 2000s.
He will prove you wrong.
Hopefully not this Saturday 😉

While i can understand the logic behind bringing Savea in, i still think it's fucking rough on Ioane.
Forwards better front up, but that's easier said than done when you look at who they have to beat. That's a fucking good pack.
Remember before the tour when it was widely accepted by the 3rd test the Lions would be scratching around the waterfront bars of Auckland to find enough fit Brits to make a team? Yea, look how that's fucking turned out. Even fucking Sexton has made it, while we are down to our 45th midfielder
You don't think we're missing Sam Broomhall and Ben Blair?
If I'd known earlier this year that we'd be missing Dane Coles and Ben Smith for (practically) the whole series I'd have been a lot more worried.

People in a a rage about the Bus being selected.
Please put your money where your mouth is and place a bet at the TAB that he won't score a try...
Don't think TAB is offering odds on that?
How about you put your money where your mouth is and offer up some juicy odds on here
One milliiiion dollars if he doesn't score.

@ACT-Crusader maybe thats the plan, they are planning to outrun the Lions and score more points?
-
Should maybe make this a separate poll, but who do people prefer/feel less terrified about at 15? The giraffe (Jordie) or Bastian Schweinsteiger (DMac)?
I'm thinking Giraffe because of his ability under the high ball. But Schweini is a better kicker.
I think I'd prefer to be having this conversation next year or in 2 years but it has been thrust upon us now.

Has it? It would appear that most are relatively comfortable with Barrett given there was very little uproar when the squad was selected and DMac wasn't in it.

They've only bottled it if we lose. Otherwise it's a masterstroke.
Ultimately the winning and losing will be done from the 10 jersey on down. So it's hardly panic stations and I'm confident the ABs will win the breakdown and tackle.
Purely in regards to Hansen's selections, it's been pretty poor planning. He released Savea and Barrett to the Canes because Hansen said they weren't in the frame to play the Lions going forward and wanted them to get a chance (while patting himself on the back after Ioane's selection). Then somehow after one of the stranger tests in recent times Hansen has done a complete U-turn on everything.
Pretty harsh on those guys.
Does Joride kick? Not ideal in your first start, but perhaps that is part of the story?
I watched the 2nd test again (I know call me crazy), but there were good periods for our forwards with a number of dominant carries in behind the edges. We did get knocked back at times, but we also knocked them on their backsides and were pretty effective in slowing their ball. Aaron Smith played a hell of a game I thought.
The problems was how we used the ball and our point of attack. And by and large our backs did not do the business in that regard. So if the forwards play to what they did last week then I dare say it will be the play of our backs that will probably determine whether we win or not.
-
@ACT-Crusader yeah I rewatched most of the game too, and watching it knowing the end result you do wonder for long periods how we didnt end up winning it.
Ironically, it was when we went to the bench that we looked like we were starting to struggle.

There have been some grumbles. Just throwing it out there.

I'm very interested to see how Jordie goes, had a nagging doubt about the ages of B Smith and Dagg looking ahead to 2019. Unexpected bonus to get this opportunity, although I'd prefer Ben to go through to 2019.

Capping a 20 year old is always a risk, particularly when he's only in his first season of Super rugby and not playing in his strongest position. Oh yeah, and its the deciding test against the Lions.
I'm a big Jordie fan and can't wait to see how he goes, but his selection has now made me much more nervous about this game.

19 and 20 year olds capped in the professional era listed below. A bloody good list - only Zac stands out as not having a decent impact at the professional level.

Lomu
Reiko Ioane
Toeava
20:
Rokocoko
Jeff Wilson
Cullen
Jordie Barrett
Sam Cane
Jerry Collins
Zac Guildford
Richie McCaw
