Chiefs vs Hurricanes

@Tim Would have had the odds the other way round from what I've seen.
-
@African-Monkey same, I’m confident the Canes can get up here but it will be close, especially if we get all our players back.

If we get players back like Lomax, Proctor and Delany (who hopefully can catch a ball after kick-off). And Cameron doesn't have yet another poor game. Likewise, IWL either doesn't start or starts (I would start Delany and Grant) and does more than just going through the motions.
At 1st my view is still the same. Barrett should be tried with Higgins at 2nd. But this is unlikely to happen so hope Cameron can finally find some form. Canes will never win it all with the limited first. Its too big a handicap
-
The Chief's haven't really fired agaisnt top competiton this season and strugged to put away the Rebel's last week. I'm not super confident, like last time the Cheifs played the Canes (and lost) unless D'Mac has a stormer on offense I can't really see the Chiefs taking this one.

Chiefs early favourites for this one at $1.60. They are at home, but haven't really fired this year. Time for a statement performance before the playoffs?
I would have it closer to 50/50
Although the Hurricanes have lost their other away games against top 4 sides - the Blues & Brumbies. You could stretch that and say they drew in regular time against the 5th placed Reds in Aussie too
-
@Duluth yeah but we also lost three key players just before kick-off against the Blues and nearly won so there is that to also take into account. Canes by 8 for me.

I love your optimism
-
@canefan that’s only a try. We did them in pretty comfortably in the end at Sky Stadium earlier in the year so I don’t think that scoreline is too unreasonable. If the Chiefs play well they could also very easily win so let’s just wait and see.

For sure. Just love the optimism
-
@canefan no point being pessimistic. I might well be wrong but I’m confident that the Canes team will be very hard to beat aslong as all our players are available. Should be a bloody good game.

No game against the Chiefs is easy. And the Chiefs at home even more so. But if we can put close to our best team out on the track we should feel confident of victory

@Bovidae that’s bloody awesome.

You spelt "blind loyalty" wrong
-
If we had both Roigard and Asafo Aumua I would be quietly confident, but I would have to think advantage to home team.
But can't wait to watch it, should be a cracker of a game.
-
Chiefs have a lot of choice in selection. Canes first choice fairly clearcut, assuming no injuries. What's latest on Lomax and Delany?
-
Unavailable for selection: Kaleb Trask, Ollie Norris, Samipeni Finau, Josh Lord, Malachi Wrampling, Gideon Wrampling, and Reuben O’Neill.

Delany returns off the bench, Proctor starts but there is still no Lomax. Shields and Kirifi also rested in favour of Devan Flanders and TK Howden.
The two backlines for this game are top notch.
-
With the injuries I expect Dyer will have to play big minutes.
-
Hurricanes to take this.
Chiefs forward pack is average, reserve bench is poor, and their kicking game has been really off.
If Taukei'aho was going to have a stormer then now is the time. 1 and 4 through 8 aren't worrying anybody.

Hope Lomax is back soon.
Any update on Aumua? If he tracking for playoffs?
We're a hell of lot better pack with Aumua and Lomax packing down.
-
-
@Tim no offical word. I’ve seen Aumua on the training paddock from the Canes photos on social but haven’t seen Lomax. Hopefully not a serious injury and they are just being cautious. On the bright side Mafileo is back and is on the bench this week.
If you had to pick two players at the beginning of the season that the Canes probably couldn’t lose it would have been Roigard and Lomax. Hopefully we can get Lomax back for the playoffs, aswell as Aumua.
-
Any word on Finau's fitness?
-
A few more details on the injuries:
Jordie Barrett will captain the Hurricanes against the Chiefs after regular skipper Brad Shields was ruled out with an injury suffered at training.
Coach Clark Laidlaw said Shields slipped during Monday’s session and strained a quadricep. He rated it a minor injury and hoped Shields could return for next weekend’s final regular season match against the Highlanders.
All Blacks prop Tyrel Lomax (ankle) and flanker DuPlessis Kirifi (knee) will also miss the Chiefs game with bone bruising. Both are hoped to be back for the Highlanders match.
Devan Flanders will wear Shields’ No 6 jersey in his 50th match for the Hurricanes, Peter Lakai will return to No 7 and Pasilio Tosi will start at tighthead prop.

TAB odds:
Chiefs: $1.62
Hurricanes: $2.20Spread: 2.5 points

I wish they would give more info on the unavailable players. Esp Lomax
Raymond Tuputupu starts as a hooker. There are 2 other options so they must rate him highly. I'm still not convinced on his lineout throwing but certainly better than his first higher gametime game (replacing an injured JO)
2 locks who ballsed up catching the ball from kickoffs in recent matches. Grant maybe considered unlucky
PUJ continued selection is a mystery to me.
-
This will be a great game to test the Canes for the playoffs. Lomax is a big miss in the forwards there. Back line needs to click, it's clunky there with TJ, Cameron, Barrett. With Proctor back he can sure up the defense.
-
Chiefs by 10.
-
-
@pakman this game could very easily go either way. The team that wins the collisions and the breakdown will take it out.
-
I think Chiefs will continue to generate fast ball, hence backing them.
Eight hours..,

Shifted slightly more towards the Chiefs in the last couple of days
Chiefs 1.55
Canes: 2.35Line is 4.5 points
-
Less than 1000 tickets left now.
-
@pakman the Canes were able to demolish the Chiefs scrum and the collisions in the last outing which meant they were able to get ontop in the end. Without Aumua and Lomax that job will be tougher tonight away in Hamilton so you might be right. Hope our lads can sneak the four points though. Would be pissed if the Brumbies overtook us on the ladder.
-
I read Aumua is a possibility next week. That'd be perfect!
-
@foobaNZ I heard the same, apparently the NZCIS facility where the Canes train is helping players recover 20-30% faster due to the gear they have at their disposal.

I reckon it’ll be the team who scores the most points.
