It seems to me that the best time to play our new 9s is when they burst onto the scene because they seem to completely go off the boil after that. I'm thinking Leonard, TTT, TJP (solid but was never as good as when he started), Lee etc. CR is playing his natural game and seems focussed and composed. It's retarded he didn't get more game time prior to the RWC but I think he'd do the job.

You could add Byron Kelleher to that mix. Storming runs and massive impact early on.

Maybe I’m judging him for his retarded “ this is just like 1999” comment though…..

Interesting to see what they do with Cam, ideally you start him v Uruguay, off the bench v Italy...you just play him, there is no room for compassion and playing Christie from here, bar off the bench v Uruguay or if there is an injury.

My view is Cam's the best HB in the team. Potentially easy the best. But we don't know because of idiot coaches. That didn't start him against a top team in any recent tests

But it's not too late. Start him against Italy and see how he goes. If he continues to perform at his 2-test level then take the risk. I would do it at wing (1 only) and FB too. And maybe at 1st. Shame we don't have more options at 2nd 5 and center.

He's a good player and should be the bench halfback, but Fozzie changes his plans like the captain of an oil-tanker - so, we'll have to see whether he's had an earlier question-mark about who should be his number 2. I think there are some signs - Roigard getting this game and the bench game vs SA. The team vs Italy will tell us.

He won't and shouldn't displace Smith - who I thought outplayed du Pont in the first match. Cam is a better running halfback, but untried in a big game.

The reserve halfback needs to have different qualities to the starter and be a point of difference. Being kind, Christie is a slower, indecisive version of Smith but his weaknesses make a big (negative) difference to the team if you are an impact player. Roigard is like a young TJP (also being a left-footer) but with a much better pass. There is still time for the coaches to make the change, as they did in 2015.

@Chris-B even if Cam deserved to start over Smith, Fozzie has shown he won't make a major.change like that unless forced into (injury)

It is if he is still stubborn enough to believe Christie is still the best 9 to back up Smith.

I think cams point of difference is his ability to poke his nose through a gap that doesn’t appear to be there .

Not a bad quality to have for the half coming off the bench after the opposition have been dealing with a passing halfback

The time for making major changes to the team is pretty much over, though - but, that doesn't men there can't be a bit of tinkering on the margins - and they seem to have made a few changes to the make-up of the bench in recent times.

Starting XV is pretty much set in stone, but for injuries (and red cards) which is no bad thing at this point.

This discussion has gone a little bit off the rails. No way Roigard should be starting over Smith, and especially not based on coming on in a losing match and a match against Namibia.

2nd halfback over the Ginga? Hell yes. Starting over Smith. Fucking absurd.

I'd agree with starting Smith, but precisely because we have seen so little of Roigard in big games.

Instead we risked our number 1, with no real back-up, in every major game. It's madness. The lack of any planning for something bad happening infuriates me.

Who do you think looked the better HB in these 2 matches. And did you ever watch Roigard closely in SRP. His kicking is far and away better than Smith. And maybe his running game too. But experience. I would always take the better player when one has key qualities that the other lacks.

But not to worry because Foster

Team I’d be looking to play Italy. Obviously a lot of players will need to be assessed for injuries before it’s named.

    1 Ofa T
    2 Taylor
    3 Lomax
    4 Retallick
    5 S Barrett
    6 Frizell
    7 Cane
    8 A Savea
    9 A Smith
    10 Mo’unga
    11 Telea
    12 J. Barrett
    13 R. Ioane
    14. W. Jordan
    15. B. Barrett

Sami T, Williams, Newell, Whitelock, Papalii, Roigard, DMac, Leicester F

I was watching the game on ITV4 and they highlighted him as someone not playing well before the game.

I was thinking the Beauden Barrett we know and love would have least got one try against that mob last night.

We have no cutting edge on the 15 shirt anymore.

@sparky yeah i know. hopefully QF (in hope that he gets 2 games off). couldn't really be arsed thinking about props because i'm not exactly stoked with our back-up props. the old ones look shit and the new ones look like it's too early.

@Machpants Ofa T had a good game last night.

I can’t see Foster picking anyone but BB at fullback. He’s not a bad player but he is not the phenomenon he was 7 or 8 years ago. Something went wrong after he left the Canes.
