All Blacks vs Springboks - Twickenham

I donβt get the point of finau getting a run. Hes not in the squad. Need to know that Jacobsen can cover 6.

Nothing like a bok AB game. I really, really want the boks to be looking for revenge for fucking Albany. And I especially want Etzebeth to be out to coldly, cynically take his pound of flesh closest to the heart.
Long 26 hours ahead.

I thought they would give Finau a run, but don't know what's happened since he got to London, and I wondering if there an injury that perhaps whoever it is Lord will come in? Maybe Rettalick slower recovering than expected?
As @Billy-Tell says they need to prepare for France opening game. As it stands right now (touching wood no more injuries) Jacobson is a real contender for 6 shirt vs France - Finau is not.
Both Lord and Vaai on the bench allows them the flexibility of subbing off both of their starting locks - which is useful given they have only 3 fit locks for the French game.
-
So the criticisms seem to be:
- we picked a bloke who is in the main squad over a bloke who is not (on the bench)
- we picked a bloke who is not in the main squad but not a bloke who is not in the main squad
- we've picked a 6-2 bench against a team that has picked a 6-2 bench
- we didn't pick a specilaist winger on the bench
About right?
On the plus side:
- Best available XV (assuming Taylor is injured)
- chance to use either of our lock/6 options for some time at 6
- Lord gets game time in the event of injury to squad locks necessitating replacment during tournament
- Best available forward bench plus 1
- Roigard gets game time
Other observations:
- ALB covers both midfield positions
- 3 of the non-winger starting backs have started tests on the wing
Anything else?

Is DMac injured? It's a bit of an odd bench but I guess this is an odd game. Am a LJ fan so hope he puts in a good shift.

@Billy-Tell Most heart warming post on The Fern in the last 2 years.ππ―π

agree, Foster said Finau was likely at squad naming ..perhaps injury status of others changed since then, but Im happy if full squad players available to use first

That's been his only start innit?
Yeah he went well , but it was only the argies ,
Was a guy on the radio yesterday morning who picked the side 100 percent, from coles to the 6-2 split . More than likely had it leaked to him .
And he was talking like it was all guess work on his behalf, and said , I reckon they might be looking for a bit more mongrel and go for coles in this one against the boks .

Don't like ALB as the sole back replacement.
Doesn't exactly scream impact to me.
He did not have impact as a starter in 2019!
Prefer Havili?
No not him either.
Someone with some wheels.
Clarke????
Id be thinking along the lines of DMAC, Leicester, Narawa, (Stevenson if selected). Im not a Clarke fan to be honest, but he'd be the next cab off my rank I suppose.
Tricky thing is covering a midfield injury.
I suppose the 6/2 split is more the issue there.
I don't mind ALB on the bench per se, but when ALB is ALL that's on the bench, then I see no impact.
Imagine being down in the second half and needing to turn things round and ALB is the answer.
Not for me.
ALB being on the bench allows us to play the 6/2 split, which means we can have more impact from the forwards. In the modern game, it's generally the bench forwards that come on and have the biggest impact, it's pretty difficult for a back to come on and start tearing things up if it's an attritional contest. And it's almost always attritional against the top sides these days.

I guessing the slightly odd bench mix is so they can give Lord a bit of time for in case? ie extra forward.

@booboo Dane Coles in vs Samisoni for best XV? I don't think so.
To clarify... starting XV, in numbers 1-15, given they want ST finishing.
The guys on the bench don't have to be the second best guys nowadays.
-
@booboo But I think Samisoni should be starting, hence I don't think it is the best XV. If it's defined as what they see as the best XV then there's not really a conversation to have about any of it is there?
He's the exact guy to start. Huge, physical, one of the few guys we have who can create momentum against a big fresh starting forward pack - which is something we're even shorter of with Frizzel out. Coles and Taylor are both quicker, more mobile, better suited to finish the game.
