Telea is a gamer and is he really slow?

I don't think people are claiming he is slow but some, like me, have reservations about whether he has the top end pace to be as effective at test level.
He's worth a punt though, because if he can do the same things for the ABs he will be handy.

Saw the highlights. Jeepers Telea showed all the skills and then some for those tries. He HAS to be in the mix. His balance and spacial awareness is pretty damn freakish I must say.

For those that say he’s slow perhaps this is only in comparison to the fastest 13 I can ever recall playing inside him ?

I suspect it is Telea's running style, I thought he wasn't that fast at international level but a few tries recently have got me reconsidering, he is fast enough at wing methinks. What interests me most is he seems to have sudden bursts of acceleration that come out of nowhere.

@Steve No argument about super vs test defences mate, and not suggesting otherwise, just pointing out some things that Will has to work on to get to top of tree in my opinion. The very best players don't just have a couple of 15 second highlight packages to show their worth is all I mean.

@nostrildamus Telea's in great form. But the canes defense was poor. Do the same against the better defending sides (crusaders or chiefs) and he will show he's the real deal. A rare talent that should start for the ABs

People claiming Telea is safe and ineffective at test level have very quickly forgotten RWC winner Cory Jane.

Nah, we put them in the same conversation earlier today!

@canefan while talking about how slow Jane was and complaining about how he never scored tries out of nothing?

Each of those four tries showcased a different rare skill. Taken together it was a bravura performance!

I feel like Telea is like a league winger in that he is not super fast but really good in a tight space. Some of runs are like scampers out of dummy half.

Sounds like you are describing Cory Jane. And he was a very good All Black

OK Bones, maybe it was just KiwiMurph and me

That would earn a big yippee from me if he turns out to as good as Jane at test level. Did anybody say he would be ineffective? I recall wondering if he will be as effective given his lack of outright pace, but like I said, he deserves a go.

We’re timing our run perfectly. If we can cement 3rd then it’s the Tahs at home for qtrs and all going well the Crusaders in Christchurch..we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it.

The lack of outright pace isn't a thing though eh. He's quick, any good examples of pace being an issue?

I think Steve was the one saying he'd be ineffective against the top teams because of the kind of player he is. Just like Jane was eh...

In response to Telea apparently not having enough pace, you don't have to be express to be a good WC winger. Aside from Jane, NMS was another WC winning winger recently that used his elusiveness to get around players. The Skudder step and the Jane swerve/fend are prime examples of two wingers that were able to manipulate defenders on the biggest of stages.

Mark Telea may go about it slightly differently but he's definitely shown he's a classy finisher. A winger getting over the chalk is all that matters isn't it? Mark Telea is certainly very good at it.

I'd have him as part of that AB back three makeup alongside Stevenson and Jordan right now.

@Canes4life I'd be really tempted to a back three of Telea, Stevenson, Narawa with Clarke backing up and Jordan working his way back from injury.
