That is why you create live depth charts right down to your u/16s, to understand what your depth is to sustain the game plan you develop, its basic coaching strategy, and wether you have the depth for tweaks you need when variables come along.
Hard to explain to some one who is not involved in the coaching world and makes a living out of it.
But I will leave it there as it something coaches understand

Well said, my fellow paid coach! It's amazing how some people just don't understand the basics of coaching, such as creating and maintaining a simple spreadsheet. It takes a professional to make a spreadsheet that truly captures the depth and potential of each player. Only a coach who makes a living out of the game knows how to make a spreadsheet that really sings. It's just another aspect of coaching that sets us apart from the amateurs.

Then you would understand the word Nuffy then.
And the word Contextomy as you seems to like doing that as to seem clever.

No doubt @Chris-B is over-egging Mo'unga, probably to counter my negativity towards him, the truth probably lies somewhere in between. At the moment I have him alongside someone like Adam Thomson, a super star at Super level, but a lightweight at test level.

The relentless negativity of the whole fern.

I do mean what I (and Reason) say about Richie being the finest Super rugby player of all time.

And that I wouldn't swap him for Handre Pollard. Jesus - look at some of the depths Handre's career has plumbed - his teams usually lose to fucking Australia. 🙂 If he was an All Black he would be the losing-est All Black of all time.

    1. Agreeing with Reason?
    2. Finest Super player of all time? Sounds like its own thread debate.
    3. Relentless negativity of the Fern? Thanks!

@Tim his comments re the captain are odd...

Foster said he wanted to keep the identity of his captain under his hat at this stage, but admitted that the All Blacks were already “pretty clear” about who they wanted.

@taniwharugby If Foster is quoted correctly, that article is almost an endorsement of Cane as captain. He didn't say it, but it's pretty obvious.

I wouldn't expect any less. He's loyal, at times to a fault. And he hitched his wagon to Cane from the start. The only thing that stops Sam leading us into the test season and RWC is his health

What a shit show. I can't figure out why some names are bold and others aren't.

Some in-form players have been rewarded with an endorsement from former All Blacks halfback Steve Devine, other omissions may ruffle feathers.

@Stargazer well Cane as his captain is entirely expected, its more he said he will keep it under his hat...why? Short of a season ending injury Cane will captain the ABs through to either our exit or victory at the RWC.

He's keeping it under his hat well into super rugby, didn't he hitch his wagon to Cane very early or before super season in 2020?

    @taniwharugby

A coach that doesn't care about anything beyond this year. There's positives and negatives to that

Personally I think any close calls on squad or match day selection should go against RTS, Shannon, Mo'unga & anyone else leaving next year

Foster also said this over the weekend

“The only caveat we put on that is that if it's a 50-50 call, we're probably more than likely to go with a guy who's going to be here in the future."

I think this is the right approach. You don’t want to cut your nose off to spite your face.

Which is exactly what Foster said.
Actually listening to Foster on Breakdown was interesting to hear him saying about concerns on wingers positioning and moving forward on defence etc, all the things we don't see on tv etc.

Oh we see Caleb. We do.
Also saw Jordan hanging back after kicks too.
For all we know Foster is as mad at the players as people get at him.

Never mentioned Jordan that I heard Crucial, he was talking about Caleb and Lecicester early in season if I remember rightly. I find these things quite interesting anyway, things they look for etc. Hey but thats just probably me lol

I hadn’t seen the interview. Was just guessing.
Caleb had some horrible moments with positioning on defence and it was considered the he was doing what he was told. (The winger cutting in style). Definitely interesting to hear that wasn’t the coaches.
