Hurricanes v Chiefs

Benches made a difference. Holland's substitutions explain why the Canes always fade in the 2nd half.
Chiefs brought on size, Finau, Ah Kuoi, etc.. & as usual Holland brought on his troop of lightweights...
Put Howden on (an undersized 6) for Bird, Iose for Flanders. Holland's selections are exasperating.

The drop from Roigard to Booth was huuuge!
Hope Holland doesnât influence subs in ABs as that one was a pre-meditated shocker. -

That Jordie decision surprises me, as he's clearly on the ground.
End result is length of the field turn-around with a good try.
Really? That was very close to being a simultaneous dive at a loose ball. Even if Jordie got there first DMac was committed.
Jordie looked and played like a gormless oaf today.
The Canes ABs didnât really stand up. -

Ok. Maybe so. But I thought he had already killed play at that stage.

Hmm. Just watched this. Chiefs loosies carried the day for me. Jacobson my mom and Sowakula and Cane not far behind. Finau packed a punch too. Didn't realise Ardie was playing until the end. Rather anonymous. Retallick could have been mom too.
Roigard good again for Canes and best I have seen Flanders play. But PUJ looked a bit ponderous and Rayasi lacked urgency. Narawa and Rona were better in my view.Another standout was Ollie Norris from the bench. Gets around the park well.
Was confused by the refereeing at times. Some odd calls at times but did not impact result.
Final comment is on DMac who I thought controlled the game very well and created lots of threats. He made some errors which were not costly. But that comes from looking for runners and territorial options the whole time. Must be a nightmare to defend against him. Morgan and Booth were not such a threat.

@Crucial DMac was ok. Next guy maybe not. Don't think Jordie ever forced it, and he got tackled as he was trying to stand up. But not sure the law around being on the ground in-goal, which I think he was.
Minor incident, and no impact on the result IMO.

It was an odd one for sure. JB was obliged to get up, play or release the ball immediately. I guess his argument was that the arriving player stopped him from getting up but IMO he was past âimmediatelyâ anyway.

DMac ran the show really well I thought, probably the biggest difference, with Morgan still finding his mojo.
Vaai (or Vyee if you're Nisbo) is busy, but just ineffective for me. Ok hands, but just zero impact on either side of the ball. I don't see what the selectors see there.
Weber's quick distribution was a big tell too I thought, him and Roigard should be the AB backups, with Ratima covering injury. I'm 99% sure it will be Christie and maybe Fakatava though.
Retallick is finally back and apart from a couple of shaky lineouts, the hookers out there looked like a lovely one-two punch for the ABs, unless Taylor gets back to form from three years ago.
Rona looks like one to keep an eye on for the future too eh. Agree on Narawa also, really good options, just doesn't put a foot wrong.
Rayasi continues to disappoint with his lackadaisical approach - only interested if there's a glory play on. He's old enough to have gotten past that (and I guess there's still time for him to have a Stevenson style turnaround in that regard).

Holland & Gibbes don't learn, can't keep playing unbalanced forward packs and expect to beat the top teams.
This would never happen, but why not go for size across the pack and maximum impact off the bench?
Numia, Aumua, Lomax, Bird, Walker-Leawere, C.Delany, Savea, Flanders.
Coles, Mafileo, Tosi, Sangster, Lakai, Kirifi.

@kiwi_expat IWL is injured as is delany. But 1.90 and 1.94 locks will never work. Esp with a short backrow. Bird should have stayed on. Or been replaced with another tall lock

PUJ looked a bit ponderous
Mrs Boo reckoned he'd overdone the off season ...
There was a shot of him a week or two ago I think and he doesn't look like a professional athlete...
